Messi made it very clear just how unhappy he was at FCB. He implied he'd leave on a free.

That makes Barca vulnerable to a transfer bid.

Put yourself in Barca's shoes. What would you do if someone offered you £100m for a player that will likely leave for nothing in June, and will cost £100m in wages and bonuses this season. Is Messi worth losing c.£200m to Barca for 6 months when his heart is not in it?

It's worth City making a bid now but of course Barcelona could ignore it. Let them digest the financial and sporting implications for a couple of days. I think there's a chance they might sell him. I would if were them.

This can still technically happen without us getting involved or making a bid. In Spain, players pay their own release clauses or fees to terminate contracts. So if barca as a result of this found a change of heart, they could say, they allow the 700m to drop to 100m, out of gratitude for messi's contribution and loyalty. Messi pays it, we pay him a bonus or sptlread that over
his contract .

I honestly don't think it will, i think it is well and truly over.

But as i said before, i have been almost consistently wrong with this year's messi saga.

Barca without LM is akin to rags without OPC.

He’s carrying that team and despite having him, they won nothing last season. Imagine life without him and Barca go back to what they were in the 70s, provincial club poking a stick at Real. It’s a lose-lose for them whether they keep him or not.
Their membership model will find it hard to compete with the finances at ours and other disposal.

For some reason people buy into this ‘more than a club’ propaganda, largely to fuel the Catalan separatist argument.
Well I recall as a kid going to the swamp to watch Kempes play for Valencia and they were a team. Barca got lucky best coach ever and best player ever has given them the self entitled perch to crow from. Well it’s about out to end, and they know it.

So Bart and his bum boys gets punted in this censure thingy. New board in who do the right thing, without losing face, and Messi comes for c 100 mill. That’s the plan B?

I don't think it's very likely either but I think there's a good chance City will make a bid. What do we lose by doing so?

It's possible Messi spoke from the heart. It's also possible he wanted to do damage to bartomeu. And it's also possible he was trying to degrade his own transfer value, and to make it clear to the rest of the world that if it wasn't for the Barca's threat of legal action he'd move.

The candidate for being the next president, Font, has said if he gets in he'll make Messi's transition out of the club as smooth as possible.
Answers on a postcard.

He would have no choice , by the time he is in, messi would be damn near competing his contract anyway, there would be no transition, just goodbye.

Why has no Spanish media outlet now looked to push bartomeu on his pledge to step aside if nessi commits to staying, which he now has done.

I think now Iv finally calmed down after the rollercoaster this weeks been I can reflect.

Firstly the fact that the worlds greatest player almost became available and the only club he was interested in was city shows where the club is. The fact the club stayed out of it and didn’t go diving in or making any comments again is a sign of where we are.
We are at the top table and a major player. UEFA and the rest of the world now know it.

Secondly Barca and Messi both have lost in this situation. It was a bit like watching two lovers kill each other rather than be without each other.
Barca need to accept that Messi will eventually finish. It may be next summer or he may extend for another couple of years but he’s coming to the end. They had a chance to say that time is now and Barca will rebuild and grow but they couldn’t do it.
Messi knows him staying is the worst outcome for Barca, his wages, he’s control over the team and his presence makes it almost impossible to build a new side.
Ultimately even when the new board comes in it could take years to fix and by that point Madrid could of ran clear of them.

Is it over for this summer? It’s hard to say. It feels a bit like the idea of Messi going on a free has been stopped and Bartomeu was fighting to stop that however The door is open for city to approach Barca with a money offer.
A lot can change in the next few weeks, Barca seem to be a mess and have no plan, so you can’t really predict it.
I doubt City will get involved with it unless Barca give them some kind of nod behind closed doors.

It’s a shame he’s staying at Barca for a city perspective but it’s a disaster from a Barca one.

Most likely because what he actually said was more along the lines of he would resign if he felt it would help keep Messi. In the event there was no need

Perhaps Messi doesn't want to make Bartomeu leave because he wants to leave himself but not under the terms available. If he forces a resignation he would, in his mind, have to stay,

Add to that that La Masia produced Puyol, Xavi and Iniesta at the same time. They were generational talents. To support them came Busquets, Pedro and Pique. A lot of things came together for them. I don't know if I'd call it luck though, I think that's unfair. Their model before Bartomeu came in was what Ferran and Txiki have been building at City. At the same time, Bartomeu has been taking it apart in Barcelona. It must break their hearts to see it.

There is also the possibility that this whole saga was part of Messi’s plan to get bartomeu out as quick as possible.
They are currently gathering signatures for the vote of no confidence and I imagine after the interview that they should reach the required numbers. Think I just saw they are announcing the numbers next week, if they have hit the 16000 they could have bartemeu out in no time. I’m not sure how it works though, if they then have to vote for the next president or if an interim steps in.

Then the new president would have to decide if he sees value in keeping Messi around or if he thinks along the lines of Messi that it’s time for a change.

I’m not saying it was but it’s a possibility.

Having watched the video, he says he’s been telling Bart during the season he wants to leave. So it shouldn’t have come as a shock to him. Basically he’s been lied to.

He’s basically trapped and the only way out is a transfer. Until the window shuts, a glimmer of hope still flickers.
