We shouldn't be hoping or making assumptions about what was the standout priority of the transfer window at this time.

Sorry Marvin, you said you were basing things on facts, and I'm asking what facts have lead you to conclude we aren't signing anyone.

I count the games against decent opposition more than cannon fodder for sure. I hope Ake will improve things this season.

Lyon are not cannon fodder. If they'd taken their chances they'd have beaten Bayern.

There's a legitimate point that we should have got past them but calling them cannon fodder is way over the top.

Bayern just lost Thiago and Gundogan is just coming into a big role for Germany internatinally...

What do you want with this sentence...

Thiago's leave means that the midfield of Kimmich & Goretzka does not have a real rival. Last year this 3 mainly shared the positions in central/defensive midfield - Müller in offensive midfield. Both are 25 and German.

I know the implications some have with Bayern and the national team because of the Sane transfer - but that is totally bullocks. There is actually not many love between the two - even if Bayern needs his players being good for the German team because of image and marketing issues and Löw needs the players because of the performances.

I love Thiago - I can understand why you leave a club in this age to see something new. He wanted to win the CL with Bayern - and now he achieved that. But I hate that he goes to Liverpool. I can imagine Klopp's grinning about this story. Getting Pep's "son" for the fight against him and at the same time taking one of Bayern's best players. That makes me wanna throw up...

I think he is probably referring to the teams we beat, after the resumption.

Barring Liverpool, who would normally have scored 3 or 4 goals early on, from the same situations, we beat the teams we would be comfortably expected to & lost to a couple we should beat.

Real Madrid was the only genuine big game we won.

If you read my post properly you will see I wasn’t calling Lyon cannon fodder. The term I used was decent opposition.

So, today spurs Could announce a double signing bale and the fullback and dippers thiago (who has tweeted his good bye)

Meanwhile, city

I trust the club know what we are doing and moved quickly for Ake and Torres, but it's human nature to feel a bit frustrated that all our signings are not in before season starts, who would immediately improve our XI namely CB.

Coz the new signing will naturally take time to settle.

I mean you could see Chelsea and feel frustrated but Liverpool have only bought thiago except the young backup. Spurs havnt done much either ti today I think. That said the fullback has a buyback which Madrid will most certainly use if he is decent enough. No one except a desperate Mourinho would do that deal. We have already spent more than Pool, Spurs, Arsenal, everyone except Chelsea I think.

Its not a bad deal and buy back clause has been overblown. If RM buy him back it means you have gotten a few years of a truly world class fullback and made a nice profit meanwhile (they ain't buying him unless he is better than Mendy who is already one of the best around). Then in 2 years you can find an alternative in the market as there are not too many good ones available at the moment.

Also, if a Spanish boy wants to go back to RM/Barca lack of a release clause isn't going to stop him.

Well, my point is the CB position has been known since Kompany left. Pool are getting a WC Mid who i would place just a level below KDB / Prime kroos. They don't need to improve their starting XI other than that.

We do.

Apart from Chelsea, will all due respect to them, rhe others u mentioned will mainly competing for top 4, not the title.

Thiago who has scored 17 goals in 150 games for Bayern over 7 seasons.

It's been known for 3 years.

As has Fern's position & another left back.

It's understandable Kompany was not replaced 2 seasons ago, when he was still here, but it's not undrrstandable we didn't have anyone other than Harry Maguire, lined up.

I’m surprised we’re not in for Luis, particularly as we appear to have an option on him. He’s way too good for Villa.
I'm also surprised.

I thought if Villa had been relegated we'd have left him there for another season on the assumption he'd have been playing in a 'winning' team like he would with us which as a DM is a differing role from being in a team constantly under pressure on the pitch as Villa were last season. As they stayed up I'd have just got him straight away.

I want both of those tbh, but it looks like it'll be a cb, for now, which would be a big bonus.

You would imagine Fern would have the brains to adapt his game to ageing legs though. Plenty of others have done so. He has played out of position for a season now so should now be used to a different way of thinking.
Fernandinho might have adapted his game if he'd stayed in midfield. The season at CB has probably done for him as a midfielder. Personally doubt his ability to adapt his game because I always saw him as a risk taker hence the tactical foul label.
If we had a new Ferdinando I don't think we'd need a new CB. But we'll be lucky to find one. I think we'll go to a more conventional formation now with 2 players doing the job that Fernandinho did and with less risk of those 2 players being caught forward of the ball. If Pep doesn't adapt to losing Fernandinho we'll suffer

I wish we'd stop fannying about sending players on loan to Girona. It seems to do fuck all for their development and it's not exactly turned them into a top club.

Although I guess it's business as usual and helps to line the right people's pockets.

If we could find a " like for like " replacement for Fernandinho, we would be in a fantastic position.

Sadly I am not sure that there is such a player out there and available.

The good news is it gives another subject for people to moan about in here

Douglas Luiz and Maffeo beg to differ. Thats over 20m made just with those two.

Muric is going nowhere in England, Moreno is young and Liga.2 is a good league to learn and Yan Couto is very raw and needs the game time also.

Don't see the issue.
