Ake would be the third choice which would also make him happier because he knows he is the first bench option. Don’t think we have to buy a top cb, because it would lead to the same problem if it is not stones, dias or the new guy that complains it would be Ake.
Personally we promote youth or buy a young cheap option
Logic would say if Laporte wants away to cash in on him (was never happy with either his string puller or his mentality when he ducked out of our original deal, buy back Tosin who I think has a £10M clause and put THB on-loan for the season at a Prem/top Championship club while Ake gets (injuries permitting) plenty of game time then the following season if Ake hasn't cut it sell him on and at the very least we'd then have Ruben, John, Tosin & THB who will hopefully be more rounded.

Which is why I would force Laporte to stay another year. Reality is he could easily displace Stones in preseason. He has the talent.

I dont think he is good enough if Stones plays at his best, but Stones has an injury history that can't be ignored and I'd be surprised if he made it through 2 straight seasons without an injury that keeps him out for a few months.

I agree with forcing him to stay a year though. There can only be so much disruption in one summer and Aguero has already gone, Bernardo seems to have asked a year ago so he's got priority.

Priority goes to whoever comes up with a suitable deal

I think he stays. One of Laporte's biggest strengths is playing those diagonals or long balls into wingers. Left footed centre half will undoubtedly be used again imo. We changed our system last year, both our wingers were compact and tighter to work into the whole false 9 system. Not high and wide like they usually would be season prior. I think he would know his importance in the team too. Personally would be shocked to see him leave.
