Something ive always wondered TH, do clubs actually “bid” for players or is that just computer game/media talk?
Would imagine any transaction at this size would be a continual back and forth understanding the boundaries and if parties agree it gets done.
Or is everyone strong on not selling until they see the numbers on a page

You are correct. Usually a phone call between chairmen or CEO's in the end, certainly for the truly big deals.

When we see bids out in the public domain, just usually the club being approached leaking it to try and squeeze a few more quid, or shape a narrative for their own fanbase.

More on this from the article.
So they say 'Grealish won't be going anywhere this summer' then in the next paragraph say 'as it stands, Grealish will be at Villa Park'. Its all bollocks from these sources and majority i suspect know no more than the average poster on here.

We thought the money was already there for buying a top player. the money was there for 2/3 seasons now for a striker. Is it still the case or has changed? I am now thinking we need someone to sell to buy a top player.

The league title is a race, but our midfield really struggled for pace and physicality against Chelsea, Dortmund and for long periods against PSG.

I think there's a really good argument for us getting someone like Pep had at Barca in Seydou Keita, or Vidal at Bayern who is more box-to-box, strong and fast and capable of getting on top of some of the more physical midfields coming about in the game.

Building a squad is about options, and with Fernandinho's physicality nowhere near what it was 3 years ago, our midfield is all a bit one paced and small and not very strong and the option of someone who could run around and disrupt and win the ball back and get into physical battles would round out the squad.
Jude Bellingham, get him now and he'll do it from season after next when Dinho leaves.

That covid has fucked you up more than you realise....

You have not factored in Daniel Levy - if you thnk we getting Kane for less than 150 million?

Jesus - 40 million? Ake - 30 million? - 80m cash?

I wont be far off.

Are city really willing to part with that kind of cash for Kane? I'm not so sure.

Daniel Levy isn't some kind of genius. And we're not run by fools.

We won't be spending 150m on Harry Kane. There's only two players in the world we'd consider spending 150m on IMO - Haaland and Mbappe.

Jesus is worth twice that btw.

Glad @worsleyweb decided on a career that involves building apartments and not football teams.
We'd be fucking bankrupt and playing Doncaster Rovers within 5 years.

Lets see - Levy knows what he is doing. Ake is not a 40m player - i stick to £30 and i cant see too many clubs paying £60 million for Jesus? Lets say i am out by £10m on my valuation on Jesus and he is worth £50?

Ake £30 Jesus £50 - £70M Cash? No way will Levy let Kane go for £100 - no chance.

You have not factored in United throwing money at Kane.

Remember the time of this season when we are not doing good and we extended Pep's contract. We were not sxpecting much from the season and we thought we will chnage personelles next season and there will be some major outgoings. Pep has to build another team now. So its logical 3/4 players leave and 2/3 comes. It makes the squad hungry and fight for more. If kane and greelish come how them along with torres and even delap will be desperate to win titles.

Surely we’d just utilise Tommy Doyle over signing JWP, they’re pretty similar players stylistically yet Tommy is already here and JWP would cost upwards of 50M. Would be a nonsensical signing for me.

I did have that thought too. But I suppose the argument could be made that Delap and Håland are pretty similar stylistically, so why bother signing Håland? Because he's proven he can do it, would probably be the answer to that

Are JWP’s stats impressive out of interest? He’s never stood out much to me bar a few nice free kicks.
