I've become a part time plane spotter

Anybody know why planes taking off from Manchester heading to the canary islands fly out over the Irish sea then head southward?
i just googled it, the only answer i could find was from 17 years ago :) to avoid uk airspace fees, i dont know if this is correct or not, hopefully someone in the know will answer ?

Just seems weird. They only seem to do it when they take off towards the Airport Pub.
Fly out over Liverpool, across the sea then turn left over the coast of Ireland and off they go.
I wonder if it's just Jet2 that do it?
