I was driving into Lincoln around lunchtime today and passed an airfield with a pretty full viewing area. Shortly after a big plane surrounded by lots of little pointy planes in formation flew over. Can anyone tell me what I saw? Is this a regular thing out that way?

Just seen Right Now an A380 airbus flying over our gaff at 4,000 ft, on approach to Manchester from Dubai. www.Flightradar24.com. Never seen one pass at that low altitude.
Never mind whether you think this hobby is boring or not.
I’m intrigued.
What’s a part-time plane do when it’s not being a plane?
Does it do bus work or what?
