I don't think it's that we didn't compensate them properly, they just saw the opportunity after Chelsea got done to make a few extra quid on the side if they made it look dodgy. Why complain now, rather than then, if they suspected an illegal approach? In that case it could've been us who set the precedent instead of Chelsea if they were so sure.

I live in France, and Rennes have made noises about it every since the transfer happened. I hear you regarding clubs taking the piss - but the bottom line remains, if we want to take the best youngsters from the academies of other clubs, then we should accept that those clubs aren't going to be happy unless they receive a payment which is significant. A club like Rennes probably has a yearly budget of 5 million euros, which should put into perspective why they are so irritated by English clubs taking players at that age for a couple of hundred thousand euros.

I think you've hit the nail on the head - this isn't about ethics, homegrown talent or tapping-up it's about CASH!

Chelsea have a few quid so they have been hit, we certainly have a couple of quid lying around so we have been targetted - Rennes like most other small clubs are suffering in the reccession and need to get cash... This will all blow over - Rennes will announce in a few weeks that they have dropped the complaint and ADUG will be a few million euros lighter... It stinks

Re: Oh dear - City worse than Chelsea

When did Rennes refer this to FIFA?

Suspect it's since the Kakuta story broke as their Chairman is talking about a decision due in years.

Offering inducements to attract a player from the club that developed him is one thing, but he was trying to sign for utd at the time. It's clear already from the sketchy news we know that he wanted to leave Rennes

It's not UEFA it's FIFA

Better to see them as a double act 'Blattini', indistinguishable for the purposes of attacking English football and us in particular. What is so sick is that the French invented African football farms to bolster their fading national game. It was so sweet when Senegal, composed wholly of Africans from the farms playing in the French leagues, beat them in the 1998 World Cup.[/quote]
true enough those pair are poisoning the game. Would be a different ball game if it was Real Madrid that would be fine for them!

Re: Oh dear - City worse than Chelsea

"It's ludicrous. But, City should now fight for compensation for Giggs"...

just to be historically correct ...Giggs never signed for city , he trained with the youth set up in a united shirt, but rebuffed city's overtures to sign....

What Rennes are saying is they had a pre contract agreement that he would sign for them at 16 and this was signed when he was 13.

Re: Oh dear - City worse than Chelsea

If he gone to Southampton I doubt it would be a story.

Cannot see anything becoming of it.

Some clubs have way too much time on their hands and have press junkies at their disposal that have even more.

Seems like clubs are cashing in on the current anti-English stance taken by FIFA.

World Cup 2018 wont be in England!
Wonder if a certain Frenchman at UEFA is pulling the strings behind these clubs popping up.

Yep, i thought this. Its funny how its only French clubs and im sure Plattini has plenty of contacts throughout his homeland.

FUCK OFF FIFA!
