Jacinda Ardern

Absolutely disgusting breaking with the 5 eyes and reaching out for more trade with the Chinese while they are participating in basically genocide
Guess which country we import more from than any other since Brexit, in spite of them "participating in basically genocide". People in glass houses......

her governments policy on China is stuck in the past.

Being cute with them or failing to call them out on their atrocities and human rights abuses won't get them what they think they can get from China.

A genuine loss to level headed political discourse amongst world leaders - a real loss

Ultimately she was just okay, she could have been transformative. Her first term was hampered by being in coalition with a dinosaur, but when she won the next election with an overwhelming majority (in an MMP format) I had high hopes.

To be fair to her, she has dealt with a lot; having a baby, a deadly volcanic eruption, a deadly terrorist attack and a global pandemic. Her decision is understandable, the amount of abuse she's been getting from the ever increasing number RW nut jobs over here relentless.

I imagine a successful career at the UN awaits, and for managing the pandemic arguably better than anyone else, she leaves with my thanks and respect.

My fear now is a Right Wing coalition victory at this years election and we see the same type of politics/politicians you are being served up with in the UK.

I just think she was a decent individual who for a change retained her decency in politics - I hope she marries Clark and goes on to contribute to public life in her homeland - I'd suspect her Maori citizens have benefitted from her just being there

That fucking thumb is nailed on to be prime minister, can't wait for my minimal if any tax reduction while that **** and his mates get plenty back, and a reduction in already reduced public spending.

She is going because New Zealanders have lost faith in her so ask them if it’s a great loss.

Good job but an Island with closed borders and a population spread they have has many advantages the UK doesn't.

Covid hasn't impacted the island nations in the Pacific / Oceanic Region to any degree in terms of deaths because of closed borders although PNG is now in some strife.

if we had of used the NSW model in Australia we would have had under 100 deaths to date albeit we still close our borders to overseas travellers both ways including students from Asian countries one of our biggest money spinners.

Taiwan is the gold star IMO.

We are an island with a similar ability. Closing airports, ports and the tunnel would have provided similar protections, but the delays attributable to Boris, meant that this island ended with more death than any other European nation, which is an absolute scandal of epic proportions. That alone, sees the difference between a decent human being, who makes decisions on what is morally right, and a charlatan, in the pocket of business and donors, prepared to take a risk on the health of the nation's people. What transpired here, with Covid, was an utter disgrace.

I wish Jacinda a wonderful, happy future. The joy now being expressed by some sections of the media shows how keen they are to maintain the status-quo, at the expense of trans-formative, young leaders, especially female ones.
