I know a lot of folks here want to cling onto some kind of rivalry between our clubs, as indicative of the ''likes'' here. United fans I know from the 80's do not care. There is no rivalry. It's a fiber glass rivalry, it's allowed to pilfer and foment on match days, but for the rest of the year Manchester has become a hub of cosmopolitan globalism. Anyone that experienced any kind of rivalry are refugees in different counties now. When I hear our fans talk about ''we''. We are not part of our clubs. That was proven during the pandemic when both of our clubs had rocketed revenues and net gains. It doesn't matter anymore. Of course I appreciate the novelty of us vs them. It doesn't work like that anymore. Football has become pro-wrestling. I hold no grudge against my neighbor. Red or Sky Blue. I'll probably sign off with this post. When we're being told to obey by the state, and to watch our teles with our sky subscriptions, I can't help but feel like our ''rivalry'' is being manipulated to distract us from the real problems.
I feel that post is more your feelings towards football rather than the general consensus.
It is amazing the amount of rags who are now "not bothered about football anymore".
The same Facebook rags who are now getting giddy at the thought of finally competing once again. The ones who only give it large when you are winning and then skulk away when things turn back to shit.
The thing is you might win the odd trophy. You have thrown enough money at it season after season for the last ten years. We have also spent bucket loads. But have at least have had amazing success. So i think it fair we can justify breaking a transfer record or two now.
Almost every single "The United Way" myth has been abandoned in the process. Everything rags have thrown at us over the years have come back to bite you on the arse. "We don't sack managers and give them time" is just one of a truck load of bullshit. "You cannot buy success" which then turned to "You have bought success".
As things stand, you might be better backing off football a little more.
The reason being that to dominate rather than grab the odd trophy, you need several things in place.
The first one is interested or determined owners. Not leeches.
A successful and proper manager. Not one who gives his parking space to the ex boss (who is pulling the real strings BTW)
Money (not debt)
A system of playing or playing style. I'd be fucked if i can work out your system/style.
You have none of the above.
You question Grealish at City, but from what i've read, he is a player a lot of rags wanted.
If Sancho and Varane turn out to be flops (as i've yet to see Sancho have a truly great game), where do you go from here?
