Jack Grealish

We line up a third party, trigger it and sell him on?

Can that be done in the same window? I'm not sure about the rules. Anyway, 25m for Luiz is not necessarily cheap. No guarantee there is anybody willing to pay more than that for him.

The Douglas Luiz part sounds strange. What are City going to do?
Give us Grealish for a good price or we'll trigger the buy-out clause of one of your players!?

Makes no sense for us to trigger Luiz clause unless we actually want him?

Agreed.

Luiz has a say in any transfer. If he thinks he's being used as a pawn he's unlikely to comply.

We can trigger the clause and sell Luiz immediately. We gain a tiny but of money, the player gets a better contract

We do know Luiz isn't a bag of spuds, the player has a say in whether we trigger clauses and sell him on to a third pary.

He's a great player, really is.

Great engine and wonderful delivery. Made Rodri look way off the other week.

Contrary to media reports, people who know him say his attitude is first class.

I also wonder if Brexit might have something to do with this one, lot of clubs preparing for their academies to tail off with foreign talent set to be excluded until age of 18?

Might as well cover our arses for the next five years until things are more clear on that front.

This makes sense given the age profile of the academy and nationality. Age groups below U18 group seem to have a real English feel to them and I’m sure these are the teams the club expect to deliver great talent from locally. It’s also part of the rationale behind the CFG set up to find future stars in each club, train locally to the same way of playing, surface the real stars and deliver the cream of the crop to city - funding the feeding clubs.

We have a short term hurdle over the next squad refresh in a couple of years time but it’s already starting to look better, and looking back at club statements they always said they want the club to develop its own talent and only have to go to market for one or two players if really needed each year.

The future looks good for us and bleak for other clubs to be honest, it’s not short term thinking at all.

Grealish carries baggage currently and has got into some real scrapes but managed properly and concentrating on football he has masses of untapped potential still - with a better team he will step up for sure.

I can see this happening - especially with the way pep talks about him.

really like him ,but as most posters have said ,cant see where we would fit it him .
The squads already big and players are struggling for game time now , dont see us adding one more , without getting rid of one of mahrez , sterling gundogan or torres .
Cant realistically see any of those getting sold .

That doesnt bother me one bit because Grealish is a better player than what we predominantly have in the wide positions,so if there is truth in this chase, and i genuinely hope there is.....then i'm more than happy for Pep to worry about squad places and playing time,he's done alright so far ;-)
