Jack Grealish

100m not a chance, crazy money , especially in this climate.

Priority has to be a high class striker , that will be 100m plus, I simply cannot see the club spending another 100m on top of that for Grealish.

He signed a contract, I would think he would have wanted some sort of clause in that to let him leave for a sensible amount, and with the Luiz clause to barter with, 60m would be a realistic deal.

Without agreeing or disagreeing with your numbers, I share your view that an understanding to not trigger the Luiz clause could give us some power to the elbow.

(Assuming the clause is a fact.)

Its more than possible the ability shown by Torres when he bagged that hattrick has altered his thinking.Couple that with Delap literally kicking the first team door down......and not signing a striker might not be that farfetched?

I seriously seriously doubt that, myself.

The only oversight I can see is that we may want to sell A player. The reasoning is sound but if we win the European cup some players may want to leave. I have a funny feeling someone who we don’t expect will be sold.
I dont get the logic. If we win the CL tomorrow why would that make some players want to leave the club?

I wonder if just signing Kane alone could spell the end for someone like Sterling. From a logistics point of view, Aguero has only played 700 minutes across all competitions this season. If Kane stays fit he’d probably be looking at playing at least 3500 minutes next season. So those extra 2800 minutes have got to come from somewhere. And then you’d also think Torres will play more minutes next season, and hopefully Foden too. Maybe even Delap and Palmer might get a couple of hundred minutes here and there across the season as well.

Edit - I just realised I posted this in the Grealish thread rather than the Txiki thread, but the point still stands

I haven’t seen enough of Villa personally to be able say wherever he’s kept them in the league on his own but I have a couple of Villa fans in my circle who reckon they are where they are down to a top keeper and a team who graft for 90 mins.
Grealish is the cherry on top for them. Also worth pointing out that he’s missed the last 3 months so it seems Villa have pushed themselves into a top half finish.
Not dismissing what you are saying but it does go back to my original point in him being over rated.
Just to be clear though, I’d be happy to see him sign, it’s not my money. Nothing we’ve done over the last decade tells me we are willing to pay 100n for him though.
Be interested to see what the final fee ends up at.

Yeah I hear you on £100m. Seems to make sense at release clause of 70m but no more.

To clarify on my point about him dragging them there: based on his goals and assists stats they've relied very heavily on him. Their dip in form this season coincides with his injury. No doubt though that he's not done it "on his own", they are indeed a solid team and have recruited well this year.

I do if im honest. Not those that are happy and dont want to leave anyway. But those that are toying with the idea, it is one of those last hurrah leave on a high, done it all and time to try somewhere else now. Had a similar feelings myself in the non-football world, i'm sure many have too.

Sterling or Mahrez,maybe both....i'd suspect.

I get your drift and, yes, I can imagine Sterling leaving.
He seems to have plateaued and then fallen away a bit - works hard but can’t seem to quite produce in the way he used to. Maybe it’s just that our system’s moved on and he’s not such a good fit anymore?

But I can’t imagine that Mahrez is offskI, for one he’s recently stated that he wants to finish his career at City and for two he seems to get better with age. Maybe our most effective game changer this season and an absolute certainty in our first eleven tomorrow.
He’s at his peak, he’s living his dream and he’s helping us live ours. More chance of a contract extension and a wage rise than a for sale sign going up IMO.

I simply can’t believe City will pay 160% of their transfer record for Grealish.

I do think we need two new midfielders (one long term replacement for Fernandinho, even if he stays, and one additional box to box midfielder to supplement Gundo’s contribution. Hate to say it, but someone like McTominay), but they need to be young, possibly not the finished article, and both for well under £100M!!!

If we pick up Grealish for anything close to £100M, how do you not play him…but where and for whom?
Holy fucking shit. ‘Someone like McTominay’...... just spat my drink out.

Maybe because they were once an automatic start but don’t get to pull a shirt on in the final?

Say, for instance, that Sterling doesn’t get a run out tomorrow?
There was a time when he played in every game of importance but that’s not a certainty any more and if he doesn’t get a spot and we win it without him then that could be the final straw (see what I did there :-))
Another thought is that we’re presently discussing a contract extension with him. Well given his recent form and the affects of covid on finance it may be the case that he‘s looking at a wage cut, that could be why he hasn’t signed anything yet and that could be another reason why he’d take a hike.

Anyhow, I’m only guessing like everyone else on here but I’m guessing, (perhaps guessing right or perhaps guessing very badly) that Raheem has more that a fair chance of leaving this summer.

If we win CL then we contest super cup and World Club Championship

How many would want to leave knowing this will more than likely be there last chance in these two competitions

Would be a great signing to be honest. He’ll improve City and he would improve any other English side - if he doesn’t leave for City he’ll end up somewhere and why would we want that. It’s a double win. Same for Kane. and two captains... I think it’s a very smart transfer strategy.

What the Villa side have done over the last 3 years has been excellent, and he’s shown he is a leader. Dias has already shown us the impact that leaders have on the rest of the squad.

Not all players will stay 10 years. Some of them may see their time with us as job done and want to experience a new culture etc. Or maybe a few don’t have the drive to continue “running” as Pep would say.

The main reason I think a few will leave is because they don’t want to accept the rotation policy for a further season.Laporte/ sterling both think they should be starting each week and have aired their discontent.

I hope you’re right!

I feel Raz wants to leave. Or is playing out he wants to leave as part of his contract negotiations. B.silva and Gundo may well be having a think about it too. Mahrez may well have earlier in the season. So Pep is right to publicly challenge that and sit with them at the end of the season and see where they are at going into the next one.

One player that seems to never want to leave, is Zinch.
Zinny loves it here and more than proved his worth to Pep.
