Jack Rodwell

Sorry, but i just wasn't that impressed.
Bad mistake cost us a goal and lucky not to cost us any points. Otherwise, while i don't recall him giving the ball away on any other occasion, he rarely passed the ball forward and didn't move it quickly enough for me. All seemed a little slow and deliberate. I guess that is to be expected to be fair, as we play a higher paced passing game than he is used to.
Off the ball, he lacks the awareness and positional sense of Barry and De Jong. Too often there were gaps in the middle of the park that just weren't there for the majority of last season and i thought our back four looked more exposed than usual. Not saying that this is all Rodwell's fault, and he does need time to settle into the side, but i still think that this wouldn't have happened had Barry or De Jong played.
Is he good enough to play for City? Possible, given time. Is he in the same league as the players we currently have in his position? At present, certainly not.

played it safe, think it was that safety aspect that contributed to him giving the ball away for their second.
once his confidence rises he will be ok.
good signing

This^^^. End of thread.

He looked good I thought. Quite happy with him, basically played like de jong.
Okay his pass was poor but he cant help that the defence didn't clear the lines properly either. Anyway he will shake that as we won. It looks a good prospect for us

Not read the entire thread

I think Mancini played Rodwell to stick two fingers up to the media who said that Rodwell would only warm the bench
Mancini will have looked at Southampton and thought it should be a simple task to overcome them with all our attacking talent and to a certain extent it should have been

What did I think of his debut?
I thought he looked a tidy player, but a little exposed at times. He was also, very understandably nervous and seemed a touch overwhelmed. I think almost any young player would, having spent only a few days at a new club and then being played alongside "world superstars"

He will improve greatly as he gets to know and train with his team mates and I'm certain he knows it as well

I don't see him starting against Liverpool next week and I think Mancini will go back to a more conservative 4-2-3-1 formation, with NDJ and Milner being the 2

Had the second highest pass completion ratio over the weekend, marginally behind Arteta's 97.6%, and looked composed on the ball. He won't have been happy with the pass that led to their second goal but the defence didn't cover themselves in glory for that either.

He's a young lad playing his first game in a team and system he doesn't know. To say he doesn't have the experience of Gareth Barry, who is 10 years older than him, is a ludicrous statement.

It was, the misplaced pass apart, a very pleasing debut.

I know he's young...I know he's only been with the squad a few days and believe me I really want him to be a success ,as I do all City signings....but to me he looked out of his depth...he couldn't cement his place in the Everton line up afterall...so why play him when you've got a world class player sitting on the bench who plays in that posistion....dangerous stuff from Mancini and it nearly cost us a game that we shoulda walked....I hope he doesn't go down in history as yet another City big money error....I will be stunned if he starts against Liverpool.

solid performance,
was nervous, he played within himself. there is still another gear there.
Shit pass, thought about it too much.

"out of depth" no -just getting used to things, boy has got eveything, 2 good feet , good build and good head on his shoulders. Just needs time
once he used to the system, players and mancini has drilled him, we will have a good player on our hands.
