Jack Rodwell

In the 'Barry' role i would play Milner to be honest. Although it looked to me like Yaya was player the left side of the 2.

Apart from the wayward pass, i though he was solid and have no complaints. He's young and new to a championship winning team, give the kid time.
Cannot understand why he isn't given a chance to play in the centre.

Thought Rod was ok today on his debut, although he was at fault for their second goal.

He seems to have a tad more pace than Nigel and is a unit in the air for defending and attacking set pieces.

Marks out of ten for his performance?

6.5 / 10 IMO

Rodwell played well considering he has been with the team for 3 days.

Why would the manager plaey 3-5-2 throughout the pre-seaon and then having beat the Europena Champions comfotably change 3 players in the team?
Last week Kolorov, Milner and Dejong played, this week they were subs FFS!

Did well, looked confident. Shame about the error but they happen. Good job.

-- Mon Aug 20, 2012 12:13 am --

Probably be sold before the transfer window closes!

seriously though It's not unreasonable to expect a bit more adventurous passing from an international standard player. There was something wrong in the midfield today especially the last 15 minutes. I'm not blaming Rodwell for that, he was completely outnumbered at times and the hardly ever criticised Jo Hart wasn't helping him, giving possession away nearly every time he gets the ball.

You having a laugh? He did alright.

Poor debut by the young lad. What annoys me the most is not the pass that led to the goal, but that he didn't have the brain to just take the yellow card and stop their counter attack. And that goes for the other players close enough to just take the god damn yellow card and stop them.

Just baffling, its like the whole team turned their brain off.

4\10

Could have gotten a 6 if not for the pass who kinda ruined the whole game and let Southampton believe.

There is no way you can give him 7++, there is two players that maybe could get 7, and that is Tevez and Nasri.

Absolute bollocks every piece of your article !!!

Certainly agree about Nasri .... but i thought that Yaya was in the game a bit more than Tevez.

Seams quite a fairly rough product yet, can't feel comfortable to give him more than a backing role for DeJong/Bary at this moment.

The real question we should realy ask ourselves : is the duet Yaya-Dejong/Bary/Rodwell as good as Kedira/Alonso or Busquets/Xavi or Pirlo/Martinez or Schwensteiger/Kroos ?
I don't think so. To me, Rodwell is not the answer to the equation, we should have gone for the jugular and spend big time on a top 10 worldclass MD.
When Yaya's been off for the ACON, we've been so vulnerable and have thrown away our 5 point clear lead !
