used to love his footy show on Piccadilly (predated Key103 cr*p) - remember him almost losing it the day City beat Huddersfield 10-1

Great speaker too - he was down at Bredbury Blues a few years back.

For some reason I want to say Piccadilly Radio 1152. Ah well it's a long while ago!

That's nothing, laddie. I remember having a pink and white Piccadilly 261 sticker on my bedroom window when crackly old medium wave ruled. I also recall walking past Piccadilly Radio's HQ in Manchester and staring up in awe at the giant black 'n' white photos of star DJs like Phil Wood, Pete Baker and Susie Mathis.

God I feel old.

I remember them posters and the window stickers too, I'm not that old yet am I?

Saturday afternoons listening to Piccadilly Radio, 1152am! Before the days of total football saturation, I think the show started at 2pm till 6 with James H and the Doc and the likes of Brian Clark and Tom Tyrell offering commentry - in the days when a live radio commentery on local radio was a rare thing. It was priceless listening and utterly lost for the tripe served up today by Radio 5, Talksh*te and the likes of Green, Durham et al.

These 2 were the perfect foil for each other, both had blisteringly dry wit, always remember the Doc using phrases such as "he couldn't hit the parish he was born in" - actually refering the Paul Stewert just after he's signed for us, or " he's a very decpetive player... he's slower than he looks"! Great stuff. Also remember the "its a goal!!" and "oh no!" when goals went in for or against.

James H was brilliant as a host who always loved the blues but was actually reasonably well-balanced for all the local sides, apart from the reds that is, but then the Doc spoke up for them usually. Either way there was always an attitude of 'lets not take ourselves, or football, or much elsr, too seriously'. Boy could we do with that attitide today!

So he's not a bluemoon member thought he'd be on here regular! It's a quality place to get the one liners and jokes for after dinner speaking!

I used to work behind the bar at the Hotel Piccadilly back in the day. James H used to come in the bar with his Football Pink after his radio show and we would spend an hour or more chewing the fat over the usual City defeat!
Would be good to have a chat with him again, can u try and get him to contact me?
