James McAtee

He just does not look ready tactically for our system even though he is technically very good. Perrone looked better than him in the 8 role. the problem for macatte is that he is a 10 in the mold of KDB and Foden in that he likes to be a attacking player playing high up near the striker. this is a role he is never getting in our team at the moment. better he goes to a attacking team on loan and defines his role further.

Is that based on the 45 minutes of pre season football?

Not sure how you can judge any player on todays game. It took Grealish and Rodri (two internationals) a season to adjust to our tactics. Surely you aren’t expecting a youngster who’s barely played for us to be automatically ready ?

Bizarre thing to say about anyone 2 days into preseason.
Agreed. There are valid critiques of his brief performance against Yokohama, especially in comparison to Bobb’s 45 minutes, but no real conclusions can be made. Not sure we could do that for another year at the earliest. And that’s only if he is getting minutes in the first team throughout that time.

And even then, they would still be tentative, given how young he is and the time it usually takes to fully adapt to Pep’s tactics at the very top level.

He struggled at Sheff Utd for a few months it was a step up from the EDS , but he flourished after Xmas and was arguably their best player , similarly playing regualarly for a good Championship team is a masive step up to the European Champions. He has filled out and looks stronger so the loan did work , he will play some euorpean group games and Carabao Cup etc and will be nurtured alongside Palmer , Pep new exactly what he was doing with Foden and hopefully these two follow in his footsteps which would be a resounding success for our academy.

I'm on the loan him out again side of the debate.

There is a player in McAtee, but he will not get any meaningful time here, and it will be a season wasted.

Real Sociedad is an interesting one if we can get him a loan there. A gap has just opened up for a diminutive left footed playmaker who loves City...
Champs league too, you'd think if he proved himself there he'd be ready to make a really valuable contribution to us
Could be a great move, the pace might suit him better while he develops his technical ability.

Yeah. We all like having young players around to give them a chance, but that's not how Pep operates. He likes a small squad and can be ruthless when it comes to playing time. That's what it takes to be the best. A few of our younger players have a decision to make. For James, Real Sociedad would be a really good move, IMO.

I think that if Palmer, Bobb and McAtee all stay then there will not be enough minutes to go around - particularly if Lewis plays as an 8 - so development will stall.
Of the three McAtee probably plays in the role where it would be hardest to break into the team so he might be better getting minutes on loan.

If he doesn't stay this season, Leicester will take good care of him
Nahh, that would do nothing for his development. He needs to get minutes in the prem with another pl side. The championship was helpful for him last season because it taught him about the physical side of the game and how to play against grown men but now this season he needs to get meaningful minutes in the prem to further his development.

A Prem move, with regular games,of course would be the ideal......but playing in a Championship footballing side, that is emulating our methods, will also help his development enormously, especially when the alternative is getting splinters in his arse here.

Playing under Maresca for Leicester, who is basically emulating our style of play would be a brilliant loan for him.

Leicester will be battling for promotion with that squad and have won their first 4 games.

Honestly, it's probably better than playing for Sheffield who is bound to be relegation fodder in the premier league.

He's still only 20, the goal for him is to play men's football, it doesn't matter if its this league. Go to Leicester and absolutely boss the Championship, show more progression beyond "I can handle the championship" to "I can boss the championship".

Players that come from the championship who get to that level have been very successful in the premier league.

Would love to see this lad given a few games at City this season. I guess that's why we brought him back from Sheffield Utd.
We brought him back because the loan agreement ended, what happens now remains to be seen. I'd love him to get some games but his position is looking a bit well stocked right now so another loan may well be the way to go. Bernie at least will be gone next summer and if the Saudi league is still going I can see KdB possibly hanging his boots up for us.

Leicester is the best choice for his development as people have previously stated why above. He will literally play with the same tactics that Pep will use for him. Leicester will also dominate possession in almost every fixture this season, and we all know you won't see that outside of Man City in the prem. Finally, it will be a huge confidence booster for him to win the Championship trophy, which this side are likely to do. If Leicester also get THB, thats 3 Man City academy players in the squad, which is great for their chemistry.
