I'd rather invest in someone young we can groom into the role than buy someone we know doesn't have the height, physique, or positional nous ever to master it. If we do buy another someone of that ilk, Guardiola has to find an other effective formation and that unsettles other players. As I said above, just thinking outside the box.

If the Portuguese win, then Shakhtar are elimnated and that might make them more willing sellers. They have, for instance, a young midfielder (Sudakov) that might become available.

It doesn’t really surprise me and Phillips’ minutes will hardly be missed. If the club have targets planned for the summer that aren’t available now then it’s better to wait rather than target the wrong players now.
