Javi Garcia had a great game today and we should all queue up and give him his due praise and respect.

But the real issue here in relation to the team is the balance or rather Pellegrini's perception of the balance of the team going forward.

I believe he has identified that Fernandinho is not a holding midfielder and has that tendency to drive forward and create a gap between the midfield and defense. So, Pellegrini sees Garcia, at the moment at least as the remedy or answer to the question when it comes to diligently plugging the holes ion front of the back line.

So you should all expect to see more of Garcia in the starting line up from now until the end of the season. He has his physical flaws but Pellegrini trusts and supports him.

Yaya and Fernandinho are obviously the starting pair in midfield but Garcia will have a solid role to play in the team

Hope the bloke who wants us to sell him so we can play Kompany there doesn't read this ;)

And Fantasylreland and Cobwebcat, my old debating buddies, I feel Garcia is managing to finally show what I saw in him. Still need a 4th midfielder though.

I'm starting to think he isn't completely out of place as a squad player but his lack of pace will always be a problem for me. Playing him at centre half was ridiculous.

Put it this way...I used to think he was the worst player in our squad whereas now I think it's Boyata :-)

We probably still need another centre midfield player and another centre half unless Rodwell and Rekik turn out to be the answers.

Garcia is almost the football equivalent of a special team player in American football. He does one think very well.
That's been pretty much how I've felt the entire time. If we had a fourth central midfielder (unfortunately Rodwell can't seem to maintain fitness) I wouldn't keeping him as someone to bring in when the situation dictates.

Problem is that a special team player in NFL is only on for 30 seconds occasionally. You wouldn't have a brilliant punt returner playing cornerback on D.

I thought Garcia was much better today but we have got very greedy about the standard of players we accept. Our threshold is very high.

Who are his rough equivalents in other top teams and would we prefer them?

believe me boyata has always been the worse player in our squad.

He is by no means the perfect footballer. He does lack pace and can be easily beaten by someone with quick feet, and at times has deserved the stick he has got as he hasn't been up to scratch. But yesterday he was fantastic, maybe the best performance he has had in a city shirt. He broke up the play well, he did his job and gave the ball to the creative players, and he was fantastic in the tackle. There was one tackle in particular in the latter stages of the game that summed his game up. He slid in for it, absolute crunch of a tackle, got it cleanly. The perfect tackle. If he can replicate that performance every game he plays, I will happily have him in the squad. He might not be a starter as I feel Fernandinho brings more mobility to that holding role, but nonetheless, playing like that, Garcia can have some use after all.

There is no question that Garcia played really well yesterday. He's been improving the last few games and I guess that's partially because he has got a few games under his belt in relatively quick succession, to give him time to get used to the system and the (in some instances new) players around him

But I disagree with those that think MP is starting to see him as a better option than Fernandinho. I see this as being purely about rotation - partly to help keep Fernandinho & Yaya fit and partly to ensure in those games when Yaya & Fernandinho can't start together through injury or suspension, which could happen in important games, Garcia isn't going into the position 'cold'

Very similar to Dzeko actually - he's playing better by getting game time and gelling with the system/players but if everyone is fit and not suspended, however well Dzeko has been playing recently, surely few would argue Negredo & Aguero are both our best strikers and our best partnership ? In the same way Fernandinho & Yaya are both our best CMs and our best CM partnership

I don't think anyone is claiming that Pellers sees hm as a better option than Fernandinho. To be honest you would have to have rocks in your head to even begin to contemplate that.

Fernandinho is a world class player. Javi is not.

Javi played well against Cardiff, and we are able then to rest Fernandinho for the important games. We have the Spuds and Chelski coming up. I am sure MP wants to rest Fernan in preparation for those two very important games.

I thought Javi was excellent yesterday.

He made at least two outstanding tackles, as well as breaking up several Cardiff attacks.

And as for the cross he put in, well...

I didn't know he had it in him.

Keep up the good work, Javi, and even your harshest critics might begin to see the light!

If he is that great at giving protection to the back four, why did we concede 2 goals? We've had many clean sheets with Ferdy and Yaya.

Why will none of his team mates pass to him? The game goes past him 80% of the time.

He will never be a player who will ever win MotM because he doesn't have it in him.

We need 11 players who have the ability to be a MotM. Garcia is never that player.

Don't ever say he's a Gareth Barry and people don't appreciate the work he does because he is not worthy of lacing Gaz Baz boots.

Still far from convinced his worth in the squad along with DeMichelles (Lescott worries me less than MdM bt)
