tall, strong, aggressive player, good header, not that good going forward, like a typical defensive midfielder.
i doubt benfica sell him for less than 20-25M, and on portuguese press being talked than he will only leave if you break the buy out clause of 30M.
But on the other hand, benfica need to make one of those big sales this season, so might drop the price a bit, who knows. Plus relations aren't that good after you stole them their pearl, Ronny.(lopez)
Benfica doesn't have any backup for him

off a benfica fan

Yeah we started with offers we knew wont be enough and will end up paying his release clause.
That exactly sends out the message no one can rip City off anymore...
Wait what?

Yaya, Silva was 25m player. Nasri in his last year of his contract was not a 23m player.

Javi Garcia? 22-23m pounds? Just hours after selling NDJ for less than 4m?
(NDJ also wasnt a 16m player with 6 months on his contract-that could be some kind of record anyway- but City were spending crazily that time...)

Yep - believe it or not that´s why clubs have release clauses! Will be surprised if we get any kind of discount - maybe , just maybe a couple of million tops

Fact of life. No-one can force a player to stay at a club any more, and paying more than you think a player is worth just to keep him at the club doesn't help with FFP either.

£3m for De Jong does seem very low to me but you can't force a club to pay what you want for a player, and I presume getting the £3m now is preferable to keeping him at the club for another season and losing him for nowt.

FWIW I would have been happy if we did that but he just doesn't seem to be a significant part of RM's plans.

Which is why, if we wanted to get rid of NDJ, we should have been offering him to clubs at the start of the transfer window itself, not wait till the last day and then be forced to sell him at whatever price being offered. Those Milan vultures thrive on days like this..
Saying on TV that NDJ is staying when the club supposedly does not want him is also not going to make other clubs suddenly interested..Talk about lack of communication between Mancini and Marwood..

The only way I can bring myself to understand this transfer, is if we're "clearing the deck" so to speak, to bring in a world-class player that Mancini wants..but this being the last day of the transfer window, I have my doubts..

Needs must now.

We are on the verge of losing a quality DM in De Jong and we need a replacement and clubs know this so we will have to pay the buy out clause.

As said on this thread we were bent over in buying De Jong but at the time the price was right because he put us up a level.

Yep, and Barry out for another 3-4 weeks.
