I'd much rather have Garcia at CB than Lescott to be honest. As controversial as this may be I quite like Garcia as a whole. He's not got pace but he's aware of what's going on and just needs that confidence to thrive similar to Dzeko when he needs confidence. Yes Garcia makes mistakes but given his style we'll still get a good few years out of him and hes a good option as back up.

I couldn't disagree more.

Garcia was exposed tonight for what he is, a midfield player, playing out of position on a request of his manager for the benefit of the team. Which he should be congratulated for.

IMO this is a position we need to strengthen asap!

Great result tonight on a dodgy pitch, well done to all the players and staff, for once we are in a great position to make that step up and get into the group stages.

I wouldn't go as far as to say he was total shite tonight, but he kept giving me the willies!

He's just proved he's not good enough for where we want to be.

Question:
Based on his City career so far, if he played like this for another club, would we still be interested in buying him?

When has Garcia even been confident? I've yet to see it. From day 1 he's lacked confidence. He's scarred to have the ball at his feet at all. As soon as the ball comes to him he gets rid of it with a 5yard sideways/backwards pass like it's infected with herpes. I don't think he'll ever play with confidence, at least not for us.

Yesterday Garcia made 2 tackles, 3 interceptions, 9 clearances, 0 blocks and stepped up to play an opponent offside twice. He also conceded no fouls.

By way of comparison, Nastasic made 3 tackles (one of them a very important last man tackle), 2 interceptions, 3 clearances, 1 block and didn't catch anyone offside. He also conceded 3 fouls.

What these stats show is that Garcia put in a fairly decent stint. He wins a lot in the air, he routinely makes the most clearances when he plays and he doesn't concede stupid fouls as often as Nastastic.

What they don't show are the really poor lapses in concentration that led to very dangerous situations (and a goal) for the opposition, and right now those mistakes are happening too often and overshadow the decent (but by no means spectacular) job he otherwise does at centre-back.

What the professional critics in the media have failed to realise is that Lescott is very left footed and can not play on the right hand side of central defence. In short Lescott is Nasty's deputy at the moment, and Demichelis covers Kompany. City only have a problem in central defence in so much as both Kompany and Demichelis are injured.

And they also fail to grasp the importance of playing the ball out from central defence. For years Barcelona have played Mascherano in central defence.

Garcia is primarily a deep-lying central defender. How about he gets some credit for doing a job for the team?

Garcia is not an option full stop.......why on earth pellegrini see,s him as an ideal replacement is beyond me...no pace, reacts far too slowly...was beaten far too easily in the air for the goal last night.......Mica would and is a far better option as cover.................but what do i know...........

Garcia gets a lot of criticism , due to the size of his fee and his comparison to our previous defensive midfielder nigel de jong , but Garcia gets my sympathy , he is a midfield player being asked to help the club , by playing centre back , and getting roundly abused and criticised . De Jong is a great player and a better midfielder than Garcia , but Nigel was never asked to play out of position , the blame is with the manager Richards and Lescott are both experienced centre backs and should be playing ahead of Garcia.
Having said the above , Garcia is simply not good enough for the premier league in his true position , at best a squad player , but we shouldnt give the lad abuse for trying to help the club.
