Joao Cancelo | Al Hilal Player

For me this is City`s worst bit of business this summer, his agent had 8 months to find a club that would pay for him, as far as i am concerned he did not, because he wanted to manipulate City into a position where we have to give him away, the Adebayor saga, I would have made sure his agent knew we were going to send him to Girona, for the rest of his contract if he did not find a club to pay for him.

He's gone, that's all that matters with this one.

In the grown up world we can't force him to go anywhere, it's by far the best option all around if he wasn't interested in Saudi and nobody else made a serious enquiry. His wages are off the books and he's out of the dressing room. We'll see how he gets on at Barcelona and whether they would want him back in 12 months time.

The year is 2025. Joao Cancelo is telling everybody how he has always wanted to play in a Juventus shirt.

The year is 2029. Joao Cancelo is telling everybody how he always wanted to play in a New York Red Bulls shirt.

The year is 2033. Joao Cancelo has finally shut the fuck up. As he pulls on his Manchester United shirt over his protruding gut and bald head, in a car park in Trafford ready to play in the local Rag derby against FC United.
Bit late for that as he played for them in 2018/19.

And in the real world, yes you can force players to go anywhere, obviously it involves contracts, but it also involves telling the players agent exactly where he is going to be training for the next 2 years and how many games he will play. Getting him off the wages is a big consideration, but his wages are his problem and while City will want to off load CFG may not have the same problem.

Read an interesting quote from Harlands agent, the woman who worked for Raiola, in regards to contracts. She basically said if she gets a player a contract and they can't get out of it when they want, then she hasn't done her job. She was basically saying contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on, from a players perspective.

This is just Billy big bollocks forum talk, it has nothing to do with "real world".

We have a good long-standing relationship with Jorge Mendes who has a number of players on the books we don't want to jeopardize.

We have a now deserved reputation for being tough but fair operators with the players in dressing room that we don't want jeopardize.

We have an academy closely connected to the senior team that we don't want to disrupt by sending a grumpy senior player to fuck about.

He's a player with ongoing social connections to a number of players we want to get him away from.

And all of the above may be right, my view is Cancelo went to a major player on loan with an option to buy, within weeks Bayern said they had no intention of using that option, no problem this was a rush job that still suited both parties. The agent had 8 months to find a buyer for a very good player at a reasonable price, he did not, he did not even find anyone interested or blocked it, for me our relationship with the agent is nothing more than a cash cow in a field with very few cows left. we do not have a good relationship with Barca they have repeatedly taken players in an attempt to destabilize, just like Bayern, Barca just were not very good at it, though they are still trying to get Bernardo on a free, Barca have a loan deal with an option, me being cynical fully expect Barca not to take up that option, and to ask City for help paying Cancelo`s wages next season.
No one said anything about Cancelo training with the youth, but he does have access to his team mates, all of which will have their own view of this matter having worked with both adversaries.
