I can only assume you're taking the piss.Foregoing a few hours in the studio filming an advert would have meant a better performing goalkeeper? Footballers have a lot of spare time and keepers don't usually earn the same as outfield players (its not like he's ever had any earnings from a transfer) - why wouldn't he make an advert knowing it would have no detrimental effect on his game. The amount of adverts I've seen Pubehead and Gerrard on this summer have been far greater in number - has it affected their performance too?

Why does this add extra pressure. It's an advert ffs - it's not like he's gone out and shagged a granny - it's a bit of pocket money.

Thank you Oakiecokie, so succinctly put!! ;-) I couldn't have said it but I totally agree with you. Everyone, whoever they are, footballer, teacher, office wallah, industry worker, is entitled to do what they want in their OWN time. Leave our lovely Joe alone. He didn't mess up, we had a terrible defensive line up. Plus, and I know some of you will a) laugh at me for this or b) give me a hard time BUT Joe and Gerrard plus one other England player were the only ones who sang the National Anthem with gusto. The rest were mouthing words that had little or nothing to do with the anthem and their body language (apart from those 3 exceptions) told me everything I needed to know before the match even started!!!

Beyond that, you could make precisely the same claim about every minute that every player spends not training - i.e. they could be using that time to practice and improve further.

Joe is a good keeper and I agree he can't be practising all the time. It is different Jie appearing in these ads versus other time he spends because they are watched by millions of people.

I wonder if the Club should take more of an interest because these adverts could be damaging to our brand.

So what if he's being watched by millions of people in an advert? It's not like someone found a porn film with Joe in a spit roast - top players appear in adverts and it's been happening since the 70s with George Best. I'm sure I've seen some footage of Buzzer in an advert.

Personally, I don't think the adverts damage the brand but if the club owned his image rights they could prevent them from doing them.
