Iff a keeper kicks it long all the time you give away a lot of possession, you never see the goals we don't concede, it's like the Milner affect. Good managers see it most fans don't.

But my point/question is - does Joe give the ball away more than Willy, especially if he is instructed to pass it out ?

This is the end of it all for me, Pep's made it pretty clear where the land lies. Stay and fight for your place, or you can request to go. Not being forced out, no issue of his face not fitting.

For me, I want Joe to stay and fight, but if he's not willing to knuckle down and would rather walk into another, lesser, team, it says all we need to know. Unfortunately.
Bang on the money.

It's not a case atm of who's a better keeper between Willy and Joe. Obviously, overall it's Joe. But the reason Pep has decided to play Willy is because the particular strengths Pep looks for are certainly stronger in Willy than they are in Joe. And to suggest Willy isn't up to it isn't very fair, because he's proved himself on a number of occasions for us.

I lost count of the number of times Joe left me tearing my hair out because of a wayward kick into touch, and it was frustrating the amount of times we concede possession after Joe's had the ball. If the time has come to part ways, I won't be thrilled that he's leaving because he's served the club well and has spoken highly of the club, and seems to have taken Manchester City as his own club.

Yet I will understand, as someone who has been frustrated by Joe far too frequently, that it is the right call. Pep's comments this afternoon suggest that if Joe were to leave, he doesn't back himself to improve and adapt his game. Now we will see what he is made of. If he stays, he's got a lot of courage, and if he works hard and Pep keeps his word, he'll be rewarded.

It makes me laugh on here sometimes. I post infrequently but often browse the threads, and in recent seasons there had been calls for Pellegrini to have the balls to drop Yaya for his poor performances, despite his service to the club and crucial goals in title winning seasons. So now, when Pep has the balls to drop our goalkeeper and give him a wake up call, it's all too much and people are willing to suggest that Pep has got to prove himself here?! This is a man we have been desperately hoping would come for years, and now he's here, people are getting doubtful and questioning his decisions. It doesn't matter whether any other person on the planet thinks Joe Hart should be starting, the only person who's opinion counts is Pep Guardiola, and I have complete faith in him. I must admit it does help that I somewhat agree with him.

Pep has a style, and he doesn't believe Joe would be comfortable being involved. Whether you believe a goalkeeper's footwork is important or not, Pep believes it is crucial. We, as fans, need to support and trust our new genius of a manager and results will come.

There is an element of truth in this. On his day Hart is world class as we have seen but his weak spots, shots down to his left hand side and distribution have not improved at all. His good points outweigh his bad ones though and that is why he is still here and still England's number one. Obviously under the new manager his ball control and distribution are vital so the choice is stark and clear. Improve them or move on.

I would be sad if he leaves as he has been fantastic for us and comes across as loving the club but fan's favourites do come and go as the club evolves and Hart is no exception.

I do feel there is other underlying reasons also that maybe have been developing in the last couple of years that Pep is aware of and as with Toure and Nasri, he is culling them and making a big statement into the bargain.

I agree with you. I do not think this is a footballing skills matter.
In Pep's programme notes for the Sunderland game he said " I want each of my players to be a good teammate-this is the most important quality. I like a player who thinks about himself but also about the group and Manchester City. We are all working here to make this club better. I don't like the guys to think about what the club can do for them ". If Pep in his own words believes that being a good teammate is the most important quality and he considers that Joe isn't a good teammate ( and who are we to judge, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes) he is out, irrespective of what other explanation is given to the press.
Joe has form in publicly criticising his teammates so we can only guess on what he has said privately ! We can debate till the cows come home about his merits as a keeper but if there is another issue that is being addressed here, he is out, irrespective of his ability. As a Leeds based Blue I remember the rumours that surrounded Cantona when he left Leeds for such a paltry transfer fee and much as I hated him as a rag there was no disputing the difference he made to Leeds. It wasn't lack of ability that led to his departure from Elland Road if there is any truth in the rumours. These French guys, what are they like !!!

I cannot answer that question because he ain't going to get the chance, pep may well feel willy is better than Joe at passing but it's not really relevant, pep knows bravo is, this is about bravo over hart not willy over hart
