I have to apologize for not seeing a defender in him. I was one of those who believed that he is to soft for a CB and wanted to see him as a DM. I couldn t be more in the dark. Sorry John! This year he looks like he could become the best CB in the world. I would like to see him play more alongside Mangala, I think they could complete each other very well.

He's always been a quality centre back. That's why we bought him and paid what we did.
He was in and out of the team last year and that didn't help him. Given how important both CBs are to the build up, then continuity is key.
TBH Kompany hasn't helped that situation. When back to fitness last season it was almost a given that he played and that disrupted any rythm and combined with Pep not really knowing his best pairing, meant John never got a proper run.
We now have 2 CBs that are settled, paying well and improving all the time. We don't need Vincent and I'll be pissed if he walks back in this team.

Big credit to him that he's been able to make everyone 'forget' about Kompany and how we're supposedly so much weaker without him in the side.

His defending has improved immensely , his positional play and distribution have always been good but he has developed the physical side of his game this season and does not get bullied , the addition of Walker and Ederson also as fearless team mates has helped him develop a ruthless streak that was missing from his game . Quite a lot of pundits laughed at the £49m fee , but they did the same when we paid £25m for Joleon Lescott and that turned out alright , he proved to be value for money when he left our club with half a dozen medals in his pocket.
