John Stones - 2017/18 performances

The value/importance in a CB for Man City is in their positive traits and not in their defensive traits. Stones has things you can't teach in the positive side and he's not terrible defensively. He'll be fine. Nico/Laporte will anchor the defense and he can work on his game during this downswing.

Edit: I think it's a little bit silly for people to get wound up over occasional blunders from our defense. Relax. We're offensively orientated + a few blunders are inevitable. It's actually amazing at how little we concede. Klopp is outstanding at what we're doing (all offense) but he can't even come close to us defensively. I'm backing his style to finish top 3 next season and we're so much better at it than him.

He has just being trying way too hard since he came back.

Needs to realise he is a centre half. He doesnt need to have his hands up demanding the ball all the time like a number 10.

He has the highest pass success rate in the entire league. If anything we should probably pass it to him more often.

Stupid boy. Have you watched Pep’s teams? Read anything about them?

At least Phil can head the ball on the ground and crawl to get there if required. Plus he has some shot on him from in front of his own goal.

And Evans is just feckin.

My favorite line this season

Stones is very erratic - prone to inexplicable, bonehead defensive errors. For a while, he cut that out of his game - or was it just random chance - a lucky, good run-of-form?

Who knows?

I hope Stones can regain his form - but if he doesn't, we finally have some depth at CB to cover (assuming Kompany can stay semi-free of injury).

Not really a big miss going off recent form tbh.

Any updates on his injury? I want to see how he develops a partnership with Laporte. They are our future centre back pairing.

You can find an update from Pep in his Burnley post-match press conference. I found

He returned with a problem with his knee, and Pep decided that with Kompany and Laporte fit he would give Stone time to let it settle down.
