Predicting loads of toffees will come on here giving the big un that they've bent us over and bummed us for well in excess of what he's worth, that he's shit and a liability etc.(Nothing new there then)
Same toffees will be nowhere to be seen if we win the League or more whilst they finish 8th when Stnes has been pivotal (Nothing new there then)
Its the transfer window - I'll let them have their fun for now, he who laughs last and all that!

Fair point. It is amazing business on their part though you have to admit. Bought for £3m a few years ago and probably sold for £50m.
No wonder that Moshiri fella bought them with player profits like that!

I like EFC fans because of their (often blind) loyalty. It reminds me of us not so many years ago so you have to forgive their need to poke fun as they are still a selling club when it comes to big players. They will have to get used to being the club that gets shafted now that they have money (allegedly!)
 
The more and more I think about this transfer the more I excited I get. Yes, he was poor last season, but he was part of a poorly organised Everton defence, who's manager was well famed for his inability to setup a defence.

With Pep Guardiola in charge, the use of possession and how we utilise the ball when we have it will be vital. Football has changed a lot in ten years and this is due to Pep. He wants his sides to play out from the back, if you have a defender who can bypass the opponents attacking players then you can quickly transition.

Stones is quick, athletic, and has ice in his veins. There's been lots of arguments made that he often takes too many risks, but for me that's high level football. If you don't take that chance to play the pass, then you're giving the opposition the chance to regroup and put numbers behind the ball.

At Everton it's also mindful to point out that the positions the other Everton players took up when Stones had the ball was poor, meaning he lacked options. Under Pep, player are demanded to find space, which again helps his passing from the back.

He's been labelled as poor defensively, yet people seem to forget that Pep excels at improving his players defensively. I can reference Jerome Boateng, who was absolutely shite when he was here, he pulled out of tackles left, right and centre. Pep worked with him and developed him into a world class defender, similar to what he did with Mascherano and Pique.
 
Presumably if he signs, Jason and Tosin are both going to be off? We aren't going to get rid of Otamendi and Kompany will be here if he stays fit so I can't see either of those wanting to stay.

I'm interested in this signing if it comes off but not excited. There were positions that were more important to fill imo. Also Pep has already said he thinks Fernandinho can play CB so he can be added to the mix...

Tbh I think Boateng & Piquet are shit defensively, but the great thing about Pep's legacy is that his teams can get away with having cbs who are shit defensively but good on the ball.

So even if he can't improve Stones enough to be top level as a defender, maybe he can trade off his fuckups for the advantage his passing brings, which we saw to some extent with Tosin yesterday ( he fucked up several times but we covered it & in the end it was a positive performance by him).

Eliaquim Mangala can say almost exactly the same thing (simply replace Everton with Man City). Not saying I don't want Stones though.

I remembered he only had one yesterday when he squared the ball. The other time he lost his man was the 1-2 that shouldn't have happened if Denayer kept his position. Denayer had an issue with keeping his line yesterday and he doesn't really have unbeatable pace.

I like Tosin. He is good aerially, he had a clear header in one corner and on our end he cleared at least one that I could remember without any problem with his height. Stones is perhaps an improvement to Tosin but there is not a lot between them.
 
Think Tosin will be decent he just needs to develop into his gangly frame and get experience one for the future tho.
 
We have tried to instigate the passing game through the back with little success in the past, Stones will change this.

If we knock the ball long it is always a 50/50 challenge and normally the big man wins, not Sergio.

Play the ball out to nifty midfield and we play to Sergios strengths.

Good signing if we do sign him, been impressed with Tosin but not as much Denayer TBH.

Tosin will go on loan and we sell Denayer and more than likely Mangala but he could be back up.

Denayer will give any of our cbs a challenge in a sprint & beat most, if not all. He caught Gareth Bale in a sprint on one occasion at right back position last season in a straight run.

Tosin was skinned alive at least twice at the halfway line on our right side, the kind of mistake which would be an almost certain easy goalscoring chance under Pellegrini, but we were able to cover it. Boateng & Piquet sometimes get done in similar areas but often it doesn't result in a chance. Stones may be allowed to hunt the ball in a similar manner.
