John Stones

Anyone think that the performances of Tosin have made the signing of Stones somewhat less important.

No. Adarabioyo has impressed in the two friendlies, and is a great prospect. Stones is in a different class at the moment though.

So far we have signed a squaddish player Nolito, a Brazilian supersta who will not be with us for the forseeable, a columbian ditto, and Gundongan who is class.

Not sure Pep will be too happy with that. The three he no doubt wanted NOW are Gundongan, Stones and Sane.

We will end up paying 50 mill as not to do so would scupper Pep's plans.
And Zinchenko.

I think it's fine to admit that at this stage. Tosin is only 18 which is so young for a centre-half who tend to peak in their early 30's. There's no reason that in a year or two, he can't become a real player for us.

This has been the most frustrating transfer in years. Stones is the perfect defender for Pep we absolutely need him. None of our other defenders are anywhere close to his ability on the ball as was evident in the friendlies where they kept giving it away.

I had about 12 replies and can't reply to them all so I shan't reply to any, to be fair! :)

Told you. Club won't budge from £50m.

I still expect City to pay it, mind.
You should pay him commensurate to how you value you him then?

If true, I'm glad City have finally made a stance.

We got our pants pulled down badly on Sterling last season by Liverpool. And I think the club are still smarting from that.

Hopefully gone are the days when other clubs expect us to pay silly money for one of their players, just because of who owns us, and who we are now.

Set a price, reach a fair compromise, agree a deal, or walk away.

Stones is a brilliant footballer and has the added bonus of being homegrown. He also has all the hallmarks of being a Guardiola type player.

That said, the club must be some way off in the difference in valuation if they walk away from this deal. There is no way we would walk away from the almost perfect Pep CB over the matter of a couple of million.

I thought Everton were taking the piss last summer when they turned down £30 million from Chelsea. But to demand an extra £20 million on top of that when Stones has had a shite season is a joke IMO. It'll be interesting to see if they give him a new £150,000 contract, the going rate for a £50 million player if we back off from the deal.

Personally I don't think Stones is anywhere near worth the money Everton want and he still has a lot to prove but I would like him in our side. If we pay it then great if not then we have other options. In fact, Denayer should be given a chance to prove himself. He's good on the ball and has done everything an academy graduate can do to be given a chance in the 1st team. I wonder what his market value would be if he was an Everton player.

Thing is, you can't blame Everton for trying to pull our pants down.

It'll get done at £45mil.
Agree
Just can't wait till the shoe is on the other foot and everton are trying to get deals done and the selling club say it's X amount or no deal

By my calculation we need to lose 4 players 5 if Zinchenko stays, so if not Wilf then who? With the player we have and the coach we have 2 main strikers plus Sane, Nolito, De Bruyne, Sterling and Silva shouldn't be something to worry about.
If it were up to me, Sagna, Clichy, Fernando, Nasri & (Reluctantly) Navas would all be shown the door

Everton are only doing what any club would do.

Although it will be interesting to see what Stones and his agent thinks if the deal falls through.

That will be two big money transfers they have turned down and they are hardly showing any ambition in the transfer market so far.

Coming off the back of a very poor season and being linked with some very good players like Mata and Kouilbiali but only signing a Villa midfielder is hardly going to appeal to the lad.
