John Stones

Despite scoring 148 goals in all comps so far, that's not weak, what is (or can be) "weak" is some of our finishing, but that's down to certain individuals at certain moments, and we don't need to change those individuals.
148 goals is incredible but it probably should have reached 170 plus.

Some of the chances we miss is appalling and has cost us dear in the big matches.

I think Stones problems are all of his own making, splitting up with his long term partner and the odd injury have seen him lose all confidence and form. He needs to get his head right to become the player he has shown he can become otherwise City will move him on. Walker has been in the news for the same issues but his attitude to it all hasn't effected his football, however with Stones the opposite appears to be true....!
If John Stones was playing for a club with a red shirt every single poster on here would be taking the piss out of him.
He has messed his life and career up big time, let himself , manager and club down badly.
Yet people still want to give him time, incredible!

Looks like City are forced to extend Stones after Garcia has declared his desire to leave. We can't buy 3 CBs in one window
Why not? Laporte and Fern to help them settle.

Otto and Stones have hardly played all season, won't be much of a loss.

Big statement from him to make.

Hopefully it means we are not wasting 65m on Koulibaly.
It means Stones is celebrating the fact of a 19 yo CB's departure, with City consequently allowing him to be 5th choice in his position next season. Has nothing to do with Koulibaly and his alternatives

Due to financial reasons, the club have other areas to improve

Possibly Stones put out his Instagram message to convey to the club that he is going nowhere unless it suits him to move. That means to a club he would be happy to join and, possibly more importantly, that he doesn't earn a single penny less than if he had stayed with us until the end of his highly lucrative contract.

The other reason might be that the club has realised there is no chance of offloading him as there are no interested parties whatsoever.

Stones has 2 years left so whatever we do with him we’ll lose. Even £20m for a transfer would be ok.

He’s unlikely to play much this especially when another CB comes in. Next summer his value would be £20m max with a year left and high wages. If we extend his contact to increase his transfer value we’ll have to increase his wages also which is completely undeserved.

CB and a top class one is the No1 priority this summer, and I don't class Ake as that.

Why is everyone saying 5th choice, for all we know Gundo will move forward in midfield to cover Silvas departure, ferna back in as backup to Rodri. That leaves Stones as second choice RCB even with a new signing for that position? Fact is Pep has already said the club will sit down with Stones at the end of the season and work out what’s best for player and club until that conversation there’s no point inferring anything out of a social media post.Theres a small matter of a champions league mini tournament we would like our players to focus all their attention on, If only people on here could do the same.

Aké is a serious improvement to Stones and Otamendi but I agree, we still need someone even better than him.

Don’t really get the ”we have other areas to improve”. We literally improved all other areas these past few years. We’ve had very few defensive signings turning out great considering what we paid. We’re starting to see Cancelo now, we have Walker and Laporte. But the rest of them haven’t been great.

Attacking wise, we still outscored Liverpool this season by around 30(!) goals. We have no problems up front, or in midfield. Our problem is defence and it was the same last summer.
