It changes every day to whether it looks like he's staying or going but I always believed he'd sign a contract with Chelsea and still think he will.

Although Spursmad said he'd hand in a transfer request, I always said that wouldn't happen. He'd only leave, if he could make it look like he was forced out but Chelsea have gone all out to keep him.

I reckon he wants to come but isn't prepared for the backlash and still wants to win the CL with Chelsea..

Chillout since when did we care what chelsea fans thought

Careful mate, the hundreds that have infected this board recently won't be happy with comments like that.... Alternatively they could go on a forum for their own team......

1,000 up so thought I'd share this with you.

I had a dream last night about Terry.... he passed to me, a quick one two and he slotted it home. I went to congratulate him saying 'Good lad John, us sky blues have got to stick together'. He didn't look amused.

My God! With that comment, Chelsea fans must be laughing their heads off at us. What are we? 10 years old?

"I had a dream about Terry"? Seriously?!

Ha Ha Ha!!!

(Chelsea Fan laughing his head off!)

Seriously, I think the amounts being touted about, both transfer fee and wages are absurd for a player like Terry.
Don't get me wrong, he has been very instrumental to our success and he's a great leader and all that but the sums involved should only be for a top flair playr / match winner - NOT a defender (however good) with a bad back problem.

You'd be much better off getting Carvalho off us for a whole lot less.

I think he was being flippant, we are CITY fans, we are still allowed to be flippant

I think they might just stick around even when the whole TERRYGATE (i coined it) is over. Come is got to be desperatly saddening to read about failed bid after failed bid with the only glint of happiness a contract renewel for the likes of ballack cashley or that arse mikel

if we fail to snag the real john terry, we still need to get a player in the mold of him. im very short on viable options to suggest.

Depends really if your looking for a replacement centreback or a replacement leader, if its a leader then the 4 below are positive influences on there sides due to clear leadership strengths as well as a good technical level (2 CB, 1 CM, 1 RB)
  • Gerrard (Red Dippers)
  • Puyol (Barca)
  • Zanetti (Inter)
  • Bordon (Schalke)

Not a definitive list but good leaders on the pitch.

As you've raised the question, here's what Hughes is looking for:
1. A top quality international centre half.
2. An inspirational leader.
3. Experience in the Premier League.
I can't think of anyone else that's fits the bill, and would be gutted if we don't get him.

Sorry but fail to see what difference getting close makes. tell you what when Drogba is running through in the last minute of the cup final can we stop play and say sorry old son but we nearly had terry covering that run so if you would just give us the ball back there a good fellow.

And for your info am not a smartarse but strangely am allowed an opinion

My point about getting close was in answer to your unfounded proclaimation that he never had any intention to come.

I believe that is not the case.

And the deal is not dead yet. That's a fact, not an opinion.

So what's the basis for your assertion that he never had any intention of coming to City?

Yeah i may not be as smart as you but i had worked out you meant in relation to the transfer.

And as you are so smart you should have read that it was an opinion. I do not think he has any intention of joining us that is an opinion, no basis for that just an opinion. I realise that on here no one is allowed an opinion but fuck it. You may well be right and he may join and I am sure that you have evidence for your ASSERTION as fact that the deal is not dead but not everybody has to agree with you. Though I am sure the world would be a much better place if everybody did

Ive edited my previous suggestion, Id lean towards Bordon. (Much prefer JT though, but still think its at least 80% in Chelsea's favour)

And given what we are reading at the minute which would you say it is likely to be then?

What we are reading at the moment is based on Chelsea's briefings to the press, and the fact that they seem to be claiming that: (a) JT has agreed to stay if contract negotiations with the club can be concluded successfully; and (b) he is willing to hold those negotiations. If this is true, it doesn't remotely justify the level of certainty being expressed in various newspaper stories today. The fact that they'll offer him a new deal doesn't mean he'll agree it.

I believe that Chelsea have been briefing the media in this way for two reasons:

1. They do hope to persuade Terry, and genuinely think they have a good shot at doing so, to stay by making an offer which, though it won't get close to matching City's, will be enough to keep him at the club given his natural affinity with Chelsea; and

2. If he then doesn't stay, they can say, "Look, we entered into talks and offered him a big pay rise, would have made him the best paid player in the club's history, and yet still the mercenary b@stard has gone up there for the money," painting the club in a good light and Terry in a bad light in PR terms.

At the moment, the only person who knows what's the most likely thing to happen is John Terry himself. For reasons I won't go into again because I spent hours doing so last night, I believe that by going to City, his earnings in the next few years will see him trouser a sum that's greater than he'd earn at Chelsea by well into eight figures. I think the vast majority of people in his position would find that quite hard to turn down. That alone means we're still in with a chance, until Terry makes clear otherwise.

At the moment, no one on here, and no one at Chelsea or City other than Terry himself, really knows what he'll do. Maybe he'll stay. But at the moment, it's far from an inevitability.

I totally agree. This deal is not dead yet. I posted last night that this could easily be just one leak designed to pile more pressure on Terry.

Dont get me wrong I'd love him to be right on this one and his record's a good one, but on this occasion my head just wont allow me to accept that its likely. Certainly dont think we have embarassed ourselves in any way as a club though no matter what the outcome.
