Article 17 of FIFA's Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players is entitled "Consequences of Terminating a Contract Without Just Cause", and is the fifth article of Chapter IV, "Maintenance of Contractual Stability between Professionals and Clubs". It outlines the provisions which apply if a contract is terminated without just cause, and the requirement for the party in breach to pay compensation.[9] Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed. If he is 28 or older the time limit is shortened to two years.[10][11] Article 17 was introduced in December 2004, with effect from 1 July 2005.

In short I think no - he signed a contract with chelsea before he was 28, and in July 2007, so he would have to wait until 2010 ((3 years of the contract).

In any case he can ask for a Transfer, if he grows a pair of balls!

if my reading is right of the rule he is 28 now so it can be done in only 2 years of his contract passed,it would be 3 years if he was 27?

surely if his future with Chelsea was "sorted" he would speak to the press, he is Captain, WHY NOT?????

Very good question which has been asked many times in a over thousand page thread, and the only answer people appear to have come up with is that he is trying to squeeze an extra 20 grand a week out of Chelsea, when an extra 100 grand a week is on the table (allegedly) from City. I'm not having it, but some people seem to think it's a reasonable explanation. Still, Ancelotti seems 100% convinced he's staying, but anyone care to hazard a guess at what else he could say?

There is no doubt regardless of the final outcome that Terry has shit on CHelsea and their fans from a great height on this.

3 weeks and not a word from their captain and "Mr CHelsea" Not really what anyone was expecting.

Even if they pay a load more money to a player already under a 3 year contract to keep him it will look and feel like a defeat to after the way he has treated them.

Saying on the match commentary Dunne has been made club captain for the comming season......

Another sign Terry is not happening ?

Unfortunately thats a huge sign he's not coming imo, thats if the commentators comments are true.

No, Hughes said he is only concentrating on the players he has got so he will be planning his squad with the players he has, if Terry signs, he will become captain.

Right, time to stop the posturing, time to stop the accusations of tapping up, Gary Cook needs to pick up his phone or send his fax to Chelsea and Everton and BLOW THEM OUT OF THE WATER and get these players signed.

in my opinion
