Agree with Dyed. That's one of the first things about Terry that made my whistle, five years? FIVE? Chelsea are NOT going to offer him that. Is there anyone who thinks they'll do anything more than top-up his current deal without extending it? Additionally, for all we know, City have been working since January to put image right deals in place that simply require a signature or two - prior preparation prevents piss-poor performance. I doubt City are going to wait until Terry signs to begin working.

Correct me if I'm wrong BUT clubs are forbidden from giving pay rises in new contracts without extending the contract as well.

One of two things are happening.

1:- Either Chelsea went to the US thinking they could keep Terry in the dark about any transfer speculation, bullying him into making a statement and forcing his hand over any decision to leave. This would also mean Chelsea are worried Terry is really considering leaving.

2:- Terry is holding out for a new pay deal from Chelsea and using is his silence to make them listen.

Or it could be a mixture of the two and i'm just typing crap!

I agree with this, Rodders.

Abromovich doesn't need an extra £30m, £40m or £50m... so I can't see any offer being acceptable to them. The only way they are going to let him go is if they reach a point where they are effectively thinking "sod it let him go then if he's that hell bent on it". i.e. JT is going to have to force this if he wants to leave.

He'll sign new contract at Chelsea, do a press conference saying i never wanted to leave i don't have to tell Chelsea fans how much i love the club..bla..blah, then first game will kiss the badge all forgotten.

End of...

P.S I can't help thinking Leslie has been played for a fool by the Terry camp in all this, danngled a carrot in front of Les and he's been chasing it all summer if so they have played a blinder.

Its a shame but i think Terry will stay. Ancelotti has said "TRUST ME Terry is staying" That is a bold statement to make and he surely wouldn't risk saying this if it wasn't true especially in his early reign as Chelsea boss. How stupid would he look if he decided to leave.

Yeah Ancelotti basically put his trust with the Chelsea fans on the line with that statement.

He must have been told from JT himself or by Abramovich that he's not going, whatever happens.

Let's not forget though, Ancelotti said he would be "100% manager of AC Milan next season". Five days later he is Chelsea manager. Are you telling me that he went from 100% AC to 100% Chelsea in 5 days. No chance. He was LYING!

I think I hate that phrase more than any, especially when used in conjunction with a post that is entirely opinion and not even close to being the definitive 'end of' anything.

It even beats 'jog on' and 'give your head a wobble' in my lexicon of wanky phrases.

you would be the fool thinking hughes has been taken for a ride,do you really think he will be hanging on to this deal with out having a backup plan in place? you only have to look at us telling eto'o to go bye bye and get ady instead.

I don't know if this has been posted and its probably bollocks but if its true i reckon he's coming

<a class="postlink" href="http://goal.com/en/news/9/england/2009/07/26/1404413/john-terry-annoyed-by-chelsea-pressure-report" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://goal.com/en/news/9/england/2009/ ... ure-report</a>

I know the report is from goal.com (usually talk bollocks) but its taken from the sunday mirror (again usually talk bollocks but no smoke without fire right?)

"JT doesn't want to speculate about his future until he returns to England on Tuesday and has time to speak to his family and his advisers"

Surely this means he wants to hear what city have to say and I honestly feel that if we get the opportunity to offer him the contract there is no way he will be able to turn it down. Im feeling alot more positive about it now!

This needs putting to bed so we are get on with our preseason. To say Terry has taken the piss out of Chelsea is a a huge understatement. Most of their fans will forgive him if he stays but hes permanently tarnished his image for sure.

If it turns out as Iexpect it will then Terry will have just done the exact same as Gerrard did a few years ago - his image amongst the red scouse is probably as high as it has ever been

Mmm true. I seem to remember it did not drag on as long though and the vibes always were he was not interested. Where as the vibes here have always been hes very interested. Also at the time Chelsea were winning everything and getting to champions league semis etc. Liverpool were no where in terms of winning the league. So I dont think its comparable.

This has been going on for 3 weeks and he has said nothing. His reputation amongst rank and file football fans has also suffered IMO due to the way he has handled it. Sure many Chelsea fans will aceept him back with open arms but this has really messed up their pre season and you could argue distracted from getting any other transfer business done.

Whatever happens no there are no positives for CHelsea their fans must realise this.
