Think he had a decent game. Some very good tackles inside the box, however, he ball watched quite a bit and allowed his man to run free behind him. Luckily nobody up front for Liverpool could finish for shit. Very strong backup, I do feel like Demichelis or Nastasic pair better with Kompany.

Joleon didn't have a good game? What match were you watching?

He was superb. He played as well as Kompany, IMHO.

And as for those of you who say he has no pace, you've obviously forgotten the time in the second half when he started about a metre behind the vampire and not only caught him, but overtook him and won the ball.

He is what he is, adequate back up.

And that is a good enough reason to extend he's contract - do u think demechellis is better than him or the best partner for vinnie ?
Maybe you think nastasic is vinnie s ideal partner and you might be right but id rather have jolean as back up than demechellis -.

Of course MDM is miles ahead of Joleon. Better on the ball, better at reading the game, better football threat on offense, as good in the air, better all round footballer. To suppose otherwise is silly really. The film backs it up, and so does the stats.

Actually he does. He is not a better or more effective defender. It is a silly dichotomy concocted on BM. It's like hoe folks used to argue for Milner over Navas because Milner was a better defensive cover. While in fact Navas is every bit the defensive cover Milner is and often more. Just cuz a player is better at one aspect doesn't make him Shiite at another.
Possession is 9/10th of defending. With MDM we possess the ball better and have less defending to do overall.

And when we are defending he reads the game better. Lescott often generally takes whatever 'seems' the safe option. Drops off when there is pressure, backs off a skilled forward, and attempt tackling. He doesn't have the speed of thought to see a play before it happens, intercept it, and jump start an offense. Those are the qualities MDM possesses.

The argument all along was that we looked open because MDM was not as solid, yet we played Lescott and we still looked just as open. It simply is how our system is supposed to work. Pressure from the front that creates loose balls that defenders should latch on to. But if Lescott keeps dropping off and playing safe, he often will be creating the very problem he seeks to avoid.

They all did that, it's called playing the offside trap. We do it every week regardless of personnel, allow forwards to run in behind us and hold a high line. Problems occur regularly and were always going to happen when we allowed a player like Suarez to make passes without being pressed through to a player with the pace of Sterling.

Yes Lescott SHOULD have football ability but sadly he hasn't and as stated is miles behind MDM, which even a blind man on a galloping horse should see. At this level you need to be able to pass like the other 9 outfield players.

However he has stepped in when needed, without complaint and has done his best to get us by.

On that basis, until we sign someone better for when Kompany, Nastasic and Demichelis are injured - they all have a tendency - then he could get another year. But I fancy our big summer signing will be a top left CB.

MP was happy to pick Joleon and that's what counts. Joleon was decent against a very good Liverpool. MDM couldn't have had much of an injury if he is in contention for today. I rate Demi but he was poor at Fulham.

Nasti hasn't had a great first half to the season and this may be down to injuries.y preference would be to keep
Joleon with Vinny.
