Mangala was given every chance, probably because we spent so much on him. He’s a terrific character, hard worker, fast, strong, humble – but a terrible footballer. He’s not good enough for the epl, never mind a team trying to win the thing.

Yes he's promising and a steal at that price , but he's the exception rather than the norm.

How many big clubs "gamble" on the the Van Dijks and Macguires of this world? Big clubs have the money and want the tried and tested. All well and good saying we could have got Van Dijk for next to nothing but when's the last time any big club signed a player from Scotland?
