Jonny Evans

Agree Ric. Personally not excited at the prospect of him signing at all. Still hope we don’t. But he knows the premier league and nobody will convince me he isn’t a better option than Mangala. And with Stones out of form he may get a chance even sooner unless Vinny manages to get himself fit.

Don't think Stones is out of form - first two games back he had to play with Bravo and Mangala, which is a combination that would have tested Maldini and a player at left back who's clearly trying to work it out. The Burnley goal was just one of those things, if he'd caught the ball an inch differently, it'd have been no more than a hoofed ball into the stand. Against Bristol, it was a daft tackle to make, but it was Mangala's mistake that put him in that position and did he trust Bravo to make a save if he stood off the player?

Against Liverpool there were mistakes, especially in that 10 minutes, but Ottamendi wasn't much better at that point.

Hopefully a full week of training will help him get back to where he was before the injury, which was definitely the best English defender and possibly the best defender in the league.

As for Evans, a safer pair of hands than Mangala, but that's not much praise. I can't believe there's not a better option available at the prices quoted, but let's hope he's someone who Pep wants and not someone recommended by the same scout that found Mangala.

Andy Cole was a complete twat who downed tools and conned is into releasing him, peter schmeichel I didn’t mind because he was still class in goal.

None of the other x united players in my time were actually fans of theirs. Now I didn’t say it would be just because he’s a united fan ! I mentioned ability as well as price and age. It’s really a collective of things. In the back of the minds of fans it will be there, bubbling away
Might be before your time but Law was a fan with a sweet back-heel.

Actually, I'm beginning to think that he would be a suitable alternative scapegoat to The Mangler! Bit pricey for a scapegoat, mind, but we live in expensive times.

I like the idea of us holding the transfer record for the most expensive scapegoat, howevet If JFE does happen to browse this forum I think it's likely that he'd stay well away. The first time he drops a bollock and he'll be crucified, it's in the DNA for us to have someone to boo and rip to bits and lets be honest it's going to be Jonny cos he tick all the boxes.

Yeah, personally I’d prefer that too but I can’t think of a top CB that we could acquire this window. Presumably the club think, rightly or wrongly, that it’s too risky to potentially jeopardise this season with the existing options.

Even if we could sign a top CB this window, I'd get Evans as well.

Through a combination of Kompany being permanently injured and Pep apparently not trusting Adarabioyo, we have no 4th choice CB.

We need a starting quality 3rd choice, but we also need a good 4th choice, and Evans would be an excellent 4th choice.

Im not enthused by this but people can get fucked if they start getting on his case during a match. I thought we had moved on from that shit, the days of edghill, power and ged brannan. If he pulls on the blue shirt he has my support.

Just think he can play at goodison on sat for wba and then be in our ground to sign and be paraded in front of an estatic crowd at half time, with liverpool being just up the road

Till he fucks up and heads one in our net ;-)

Jumanji!

I'd buy JFE the board game and fix the dice for him to roll a 5!
"In the Jungle you must wait till the dice rolls 5 or 8"
By the time he gets out he'll be too old to play!

I don't personally know one single City fan who has Evans' Utd connection as the main reason for not wanting him. And I don't know anyone who wants him.

Personally if I'd watched him & seen that he was really good, I wouldn't care if he was Ferguson's son. We need a cb.

come off it. you only have to read the replies on this thread. he doesn't have to be world class or the very best. if he can do a good job thats all that matter. lescott was similarly called out and proved to be quality in the end and hes not half as good on the ball.

I Can imagine his 1st touch hoof straight into row z then the chant comes we thought you were shit we were right:-)

I wholeheartedly agree.

Plus back-ups block the path for your own academy players and after a while of just sitting on the bench they get demotivated. Why can't Tosin get the chance? One of the advantages of being a far way ahead is we have room for error. Tosin may become even better than Evans but until he's given the chance we'll never know.

wouldn't delph apply to that then, he was signed as a back up. tosin even without evans isn't getting a chance and isn't going into the first team. he needs to go on loan. so evans isn't really effecting his chances at all.

Lescott was 5 times the defender JFE has ever been.

Most of the people who have commented negatively, don't want him because they don't rate him.

The rag connection is just an added exta.

For me, he should be one of 'the best' around btw or not be signing.

you could argue thats the case, but i remember plenty of people slagging lescott off when he was at city. he couldn't defend, terrible on the ball, slow.....
obviously some people don't rate him, but plenty of the comments I've seen, not just on here are to do with him being a rag. who's available thats one of the best around in january ?. Evans wouldn't be coming here as first choice, but as cover - replacing mangala. i think he's miles better then mangala.
