José Gayà

Gaya rejects Valencia extension

The 19-year-old, already a highly rated full-back, has turned down a contract extension with Valencia. Reports suggest the offer was disappointing and the player's agents see Real Madrid's interest as a big factor in the player's future earnings.

This lad is too similar to our own Angelino anyway imo. If a player does as well as Angelino has done, he deserves a bit of faith to at least give him a chance of making it. If we signed Gaya, I'm not sure we could use both of them at the club. We would want something different as an alternative I imagine. That would mean one has to go.

I think a combo of Clichy and Gaya for a couple of seasons would be good - he is more attacking than Clichy and can learn a lot in his time with us. I'd loan Angelino out to make a name for himself with a view to using him as Clichy's replacement. Having said that I think Rodriguez from Wolfsberg would be a great signing and a direct replacement for Kolarov.

The point for me is that if you had Gaya, then I'm not sure you would want Angelino as Clchy's replacement. I don't think you would want two little tiny fullbacks with very similar pros & cons in their game. You would want a different option.

It would make more sense to sign a differerent replacement for Kolarov, then bring though Angelino, who may turn out to be better than Gaya anyway.

I understand that point of view, though I still think a good defender is a good defender in any situation. The best full backs over the years have never been particularly tall. Kolarov and Clichy at times are just simply not good enough at defending. If a ball comes in from a wide position then the full back either needs to play the attacker offside, the centre back has to deal with it or in some cases it's just a cracking ball in and a well timed run/header.

I cant help but think his signature would impact on Angelino,is he really that much better?

Or,do the club see the two as our future? subsequently moving Clichy on in the next 18months?
