I cant help but think his signature would impact on Angelino,is he really that much better?

Or,do the club see the two as our future? subsequently moving Clichy on in the next 18months?

That's what I would be doing with several positions... I'd be looking at who we definitely need in the first team or who could improve us - left back, wide player, central midfielder and then looking at the older squad members who can still perform a good job for us - Navas, Zabaleta, Sagna, Fernandinho and look at who from the academy could possibly fill one of those positions. It won't work as a scientific process - we can't expect to have enough quality in the academy in every position at the moment - but I'd be thinking of buying a left back this season to replace Kolarov and then replace Clichy in a couple of seasons with Angelino. Similarly at right back I'd look at getting Maffeo in Sagna's spot and then buying someone to replace Zabba. There's Bryan or Byrne who might fancy taking Fernando's spot...Denayer to take Boyata's or even Demichelis unless we want an experienced CB in again. There's the likes of Nasri who could be replaced by Lopes.

We should be looking at this kind of transition over the coming seasons. This summer we certainly need a LB, a Koke style midfielder, a wide/attacking player like De Bruyne or Sterling and potentially one other. We will have to sell some of the above to make room for them but moving forward there could be plenty of talent out on loan that prove themselves and can bolster our squad without spending huge sums.

Barca's model is brilliant in the way they've been able to spend a fortune on one or two players because their squad gets replenished by their academy. It would be good to do the same with our side, but I don't know whether it will be fully feasible for a couple of years yet. Lopes and Denayer are two I would certainly be trying to implement but if they don't get game time I'd loan them out immediately.

If Gaya was at City, he would be in our youth team/EDS or on loan, having rarely had even a sniff of the first team. No way would City already have put him in ahead of Clichy & Kolarov. Likewise, if Angelino was playing in the B league in Spain, he would have been tearing it up, & probably forced his way into Valencia's team at a younger age than this lad.

I have no problem with us signing this kid, but if it happens & then Angelino doesn't get a chance, I think I'll lose a lot of my enthusiasm for the current City setup & possibly my interest full stop.

Why not just give angelino a chance ?? If we buy this guy and end up not giving one of our own best youth players a chance then whats the point in the academy

Gaya is 2 years older than Angelino. That's a long time in football.

Gaya is going to be one of the best fullbacks in the world. Signing him for a bargain 13m isn't going to stop Angelino's progress. All it'd mean is that, if Angelino does turn out to be who we hope, we'd be able to make serious profit on Gaya in 18-48 months time (or push him forward to LM/LW)

We could even loan Angelino to Valancia at some point, it seems like a good place to develop

Without question we should grab him at the price quoted! Keep clichy for another couple of seasons and when angelino is a better more developed promote him and sell gael.

Angelino may or may not make it. I'd say he has a better than 50% chance. But if you have the chance to sign a talent this big for so little, you take it without second thought. Especially when both left-backs are 30+ (or Clichy will be shortly), meaning that by the time Angelino is 20, Clichy will be 32 and Gaya will be 21 or 22 so Angelino could replace Clichy. Angelino has yet to kick a ball in anger at senior level though and should go on loan. The club plans to sign a left-back this summer no matter what based on all the reports and the likelihood of Kolarov leaving and Gaya is about the best young one I've seen and already playing at a high level for a really good team. He'll probably go to Real Madrid though...

Real Madrid have already signed a left back for the summer - Danilo from Porto so I doubt they'll get Gaya too. City Bound I reckon
