Re: Juan Mata is a must

Tbh, I don't think he can fit into the system.. especially if the great Sanchez signs.

Why not? Mata is likley to fit better and quicker than Sanchez. He is a pass and move player, and a better passer of the ball. Those types of players tend to gel quicker.

For one, Mata needs to play behind the striker.
So if we have:

---------De Jong-----------Yaya------------

Silva---------------Tevez--------------Mata

---------------Mario/Dzeko-------------------

Both Silva and Mata will naturall come in, and our play with be very direct and central. No width at all unless kolarov and richards come through. This will not work because:
a.) how passing is not as good as Barca's
b.) we play on defence and pushing both Fullback's forward will not do us favours.

Re: Juan Mata is a must

I think we'll bring in Sanchez and Mata, play them both along with silva and a striker.

______Yaya____Nige___
Sanchez___Silva___Mata
_________Striker______

K75, I think you have the philosophy and likely starts all wrong. If we get Mata and Tevez is still around, Tevez will start as the Striker, not Dzeko/Balo. More likely than not considering Mancini's love for Balo, I wouldn't be suprised to see him starting on the right (where you have Silva) and SIlva where you have Tevez. And you are correct, Mata would probably Start left, but I can see him and SIlva interchanging roles seamlessly. They used to do that back at Valencia.

Thus, you are wrong to assume Mata "needs" to play behind the striker, he doesn't. He can play there, but can also play anywhere else in the attacking areas.

As for width- Our coach is Mancini, and like many continental coaches, and even English coach's for that matter (width is provided by the fullbacks) not the Attacking midfielders. Sure they would provide width sporadically, but the consistent production from the flanks should come from overlapping fullbacks. That is how 4231 is mean't to work. The whole point of having 2 DMs is to afford enough cover for overlapping fullbacks. Besides our ability to possess the ball intelligently will be doubled with Mata, and thus fewer breakaway's by the opposition will occur.

In reality Mata is more likely to be a far superior addition to our sqaud than Sanchez (at least in the 1st year or 2). However if Sanchez reaches his expected potential, he has the capacity to become a top 3 individual force in the mold of a Cristiano, Robben or Ribery. Someone that is just individually unstoppable. But as for team play, he is far less likely to give us half what the likes of Mata will in their 1st year. And if he doesn't reach his full potential (which is a possible outcome) then Mata would be the better addition regardless of time.

Sanchez will be potentially great for us eventually. Mata will almost certainly be Suarez good for us immediately.
