Juan Mata (Merged)

Re: Juan Mata is a must

Its funny how quite a few are now considering Mata after the under 21 tournament. I have been banging on about him on here for quite some time. He is the best pound for pound signing we could make. He is one of the least risky signings we could make. Even if we land Sanchez we should still go for him and now with Weiss wanting to go to Spain we have the added bonus of a make weight and less of a net spend.

Another great addition would be Javi Martinez as he could play DMF or a deep lying playmaker. If we got him there would be no need for a backup for De Jong, No need to renew Vierra's contract and even sell Barry and MJ as we would have Yaya Milner De Jong and Martinez. That would be a big saving on the wages (3 out 1 in).

If we get Sanchez and we needed to we could recoup some of the money by selling AJ and use Milner on the wing (not his best position granted). I think the Financial model going forward will be one similar to Barca with a small versatile squad with young prospects making up the numbers.

Re: Juan Mata is a must

Back in january one of the clues Tolmie gave was "silver bells" which many thought meant Silva was phoning someone. Most people jumped to the conclusion it was Villa or Torres, what if it was Mata?
I'm thinking we may have tried to sign him in january but he wouldn't move mid season.

Complete guess but could be possible.

Would tae Pastore and Modric over him, but sure I'd take him or Santi Carzola over Sanchez in the short run.

I see your reasoning,b ut I don't think it is practical. Martinez is a starter and you'd have to Sell Yaya or De Jong to bring him in.Personally, seeing as our forward line is all short, I wouln't mind selling De Jong and letting Martinex and Yaya run the CM as a ball passing team. But I know that would cause a stinker with fans, so No to Martinez for me.

I don't see why we should force an AJ sale, granted if someone offers 25 million we will be imprudent not to consider it, but no need selling off a good sub on the cheap. Which would be what happens if people think we want to sell AJ by all means.

-- Wed Jun 15, 2011 10:48 am --

Sometimes, Tolmie's clues are just what they seem like, pointless ruse!

Tbh, I don't think he can fit into the system.. especially if the great Sanchez signs.
Why not? Mata is likley to fit better and quicker than Sanchez. He is a pass and move player, and a better passer of the ball. Those types of players tend to gel quicker.
Exactly why I think a player like Sanchez is a better fit for us. As good a player as Mata is i would prefer to see some pace and someone who can beat a man in the team to give us a different option.

Re: Juan Mata is a must

watching U21 now. Thought he was more of a wideman but he's basically playing centre forward at the moment

Which is what everyone who has been going on about him seems to think he is. He is just an inferior Silva and as much as it would be nice to sign him we have other positions to be strengthened.

Don't you think him and silva could strike up a xavi & iniesta partnership?

There is room for mats and Sanchez in my opinion.
