Juan Mata (Merged)

The contrast between the first and second halves last night - with and without David Silva - surely highlighted our desperate need for at least one, and preferably two, creative / attacking midfielders to complement and support David. We really need to anticipate the added pressure from Champions League football. I would like to see two of Mata, Pastore, Nasri or Sneijder. An attraction of Mata would be tat he would develop an understanding with David very quickly.

Agree, but for that job I'd want someone more consistent than Pastore.

Don't forget, this lad is 21 or 22 years old where inconsistency is at it's greatest. By the time Pastore is 23 he will develop that consistency and become a truly sparkling individual. People forget he's only that age, and he's already a top top quality player right now. Pastore is definitely a win-win signing, as is Mata and Nasri.

In 2 years there may be 4 or 5 players none of us have even heard of yet who are as good or better though. If we make signings for the future then fine but we need players who do it right now, like next week, rather than next year.

I am confident that he would deliver soon - though next week might be a bit optimistic!

I think that his worth would have been more evident if he had been playing with more talented players this last season. In the Italian Cup Final against Inter, he was magnificent (in my view). But the relatively simple chances he created were squandered and Palermo lost. As a result, Pastore did not get the credit he deserved.

Also could you find better judges of talent than Messi and Maradona?

When Messi was asked after the World Cup who had impressed him the most in Argentina’s squad, he said: “I have no doubts – Pastore. I didn’t know him. He plays really well.”

But the classic observation was from Maradona: he called Pastore an “ignoramus” because “he goes out on the pitch and moves like a veteran” rather than with “the emotion of a debutante.”

Valencia insist Liverpool and Arsenal target not for sale

Valencia president Manuel Llorente has attempted to end speculation over Juan Mata's future by insisting his club will not sell the attacker at any price.

The former Real Madrid youngster has been linked with a move away from the Mestalla all summer with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City linked to the 23-year-old.

Valencia are reluctant to sell having lost David Villa and David Silva a year ago to ease their financial problems, and Llorente has reiterated his stance.

He told Superdeporte: "The decision is clear and money will not change our position. Valencia will not sell to any club that wants to buy Mata."

Re: Juan Mata is a must

There is a game being played here, Mata has a release clause of 25mill, one week the chairman says he's not for sale and the next if they receive a high offer he may be sold! Mata says very little apart from he's happy at Valencia which is what you would expect him to say in case no one comes in for him ( doesn't want to piss the fans off). The fact that they are massively in debt, have a big interest payment to make and have already bought his replacement suggests he is leaving as soon as a club meets Mata's release fee. I suspect his departure will be a quick and quiet one when it happens! and could be very near the end of the window. The fact that Valencia keep telling us he's not for sale is to get some press and drum up interest as actually opposite has occurred re Mata with very little speculation on the player this window.

The first mistake is to buy into the fallacy that he is inconsistent. He is not! Period! Plain and simple. On our squad last season we have, De Jong, Barry, Milner, Adam Johnson, SWP, Yaya Toure, Balotelli, Viera and David Silva in midfield. Of all the above mention non outside of De Jong was as consistent for City as Pastore was for Parlemo. So this ridiculous idea of inconsistency is laughable.

i think Mata is the best signing we can go for ,hes spanish and silva's team mate so that will make them both happy , plus the fact that he played brilliantly in the U-21 fpr spain in the same position as barry's deep left midfield ,

-----------------NDJ---------------

------yaya-----------------mata-------

if we signed someone like pastore or sneijder are we going to drop yaya ??
No. I'll drop De Jong in games we don't plan on defending.

As much as it shakes me to leave out De Jong from any starting line-up, I agree he is not always necessary.
If only he could become a better forward passer, someone like Busquets who gets the ball from defence to offence more quickly.

I wonder how YaYa would perform in De Jongs position.
I thought Nige improved going forward last season, especially in the last few months. He used to play a more attacking role with Ajax, but is disciplined enough to sit tight if instructed to by Mancini. Maybe it's down to the manager to let him off his leash?

Re: Juan Mata is a must

I would rather him to pastore he is more consistant and proved himself in spain
