Most people complaining about Lillo earlier in the thread were saying we’d changed our style of play and it wasn’t working (we were 14th) and that it was boring to watch.Probably lol, although I don't intend it to be that way. I guess I'm adopting the old calling a spade a spade mentality that's so popular on here.
Most people complaining about Lillo were pinning many of our problems on him without any evidence he was primarily responsible for any of it. Nothing you wrote is relevant to that point. In fact you're continuously missing my original point. Most people complaining about Lillo earlier in the thread were saying we’d changed our style of play and it wasn’t working (we were 14th) and that it was boring to watch.
Pep is on record as saying he “didn’t like” the team, and in November went back to our old style of play. Which we did, to great success.
And you’re using that chain of events to say the people complaining in October had it all wrong?! Strange one.
It’s similar to the people gloating about Gundogan having a great 2nd half of the season as if it justifies his previous bog average 4 years. Lol
How about these articles for “evidence”?Most people complaining about Lillo were pinning many of our problems on him without any evidence he was primarily responsible for any of it. Nothing you wrote is relevant to that point. In fact you're continuously missing my original point.
This isn't about gloating, it's about pointing out that too many people have a bad habit of jumping to LONG TERM conclusions on things despite going on to be proven wrong time and time again.
How about these articles for “evidence”?

Juanma Lillo: Coach Watch - The Coaches' Voice
Juanma Lillo has returned to assist Pep Guardiola at Manchester City after a year at Al Sadd in Qatar. We look at his principleswww.coachesvoice.com
Lillo is not only quoted as being a staunch 4231 die hard, he’s credited with actually INVENTING the system itself.
Pep has played the overwhelming majority of his career with a 433.
At the start of this season he inexplicably changed to 4231. He had the worst start to a season in his career a coach.
And his assistant manager starting his first full season as assistant is a self confessed 4231 zealot who claims to have invented the system itself.
In November after a call with Arrigho Sacchi, Pep is on record as saying he didn’t like the way we were playing and we went back to his regular 433.
This sounds like a job for AC-12.
“Most people complaining about Lillo were pinning many of our problems on him without any evidence he was primarily responsible for any of it.”It looks like you're trying to argue a point that's not really relevant to mine. I'll leave you be.
"Pep is on record as saying he “didn’t like” the team, and in November went back to our old style of play." But we didn't go back to our old style did we. He adjusted the team ie. Cancelo supporting Rodri in possession with Gundogan pushing farther forward than he ever has, or Zinchenko coming in to do something similar on the left, using a false 9 etc. There were no more regular 4/5/6 thrashings of weaker teams and conceding stupid goals where we should be winning, wasn't that our "old style" ? Why we arguably regressed in 19/20. We evolved into a system that best suited the circumstances and squad, as Pep said repeatedly, less running , moving the ball quicker not making the players run too much , more solid in defence. Yes Pep said he "didn't like" the team, but if you read the articles on Lillo and look at the 21 winning run games, he didn't go back to any old style, he tweaked until we settled into a newer system, it just didn't happen overnight. Most people complaining about Lillo earlier in the thread were saying we’d changed our style of play and it wasn’t working (we were 14th) and that it was boring to watch.

Who mentioned old style centre forwards? So we've won the Carabao Cup, top the PL, CL finalists with A. various midfielders playing as centre forward in a traditional 433, rarely or B. with a rotating group of midfielders in a 4312/4321 mainly. How many games have we had an old style centre forward play in an old style 433 since November ?.
