Bit cocky and arrogant on the pitch, I don't mind that to much as long as he plays well also. I actually think England need a bit of that especially against the 'big' countries when we play them - feel we have been to soft over the decades at times.

Every interview I've seen him do comes across respectful and he speaks well.

I saw Bernie as a joke no worse then posting a picture of Tin Tin as KDB, I didnt see it as racism. But using a silver back gorilla towards a black keeper is ok.

I emailed 'kick out racism' for their view, didnt reply.

As for bellend for me its not about racism, that never entered my mind. It's because I have never seen him play well, his 'look at me' when he scores is all about him not the team. To me he is vasty over rated as a footballer and comes across as a twat who thinks he is brilliant.
I personally blame him, taa and southgate for Foden being poor last season. Phil went into that camp as player of the year, came back a shell of the player he is.

That’s a brilliant post, Gordon, I completely agree with everything you said in it.

On the Garnacho point, re: the gorilla and Onana. Danny Baker was sack by the BBC for portraying the Harry and Meghan's first child as a chimpanzee. He claimed that he didn’t even consider the consequences. I believe that, whereas Garnacho knew exactly what he was doing.

Bernie and Benjamin were very close friends, and had used that emoji several times over the years.

It’s as you say, those fighting racism don’t know what they’re doing, or racism is too complicated an issue.
 
I find parallels in the Bellingham discussion with those re Jofra Archer. The media would have us believe that both of them are the final pieces in us having winning teams as they are generational talents. However fans do not buy into the hype but judge them on their actual performances when playing for England. Most fans today have seen enough football or cricket to know when a player is a special talent. Fans as such have no vested interests in the way that the media have. Some fans do let club loyalties role over in football but they are in a minority and in cricket it's a non-existent issue.
So as I see it player criticism is not based on race but on a rebellious spirit which lets the media know we will not be hoodwinked into believing a player is a generational talent but we will judge him on performance and the respect he shows to his fellow professionals and the officials on the pitch

Which he has consistently failed to do, hence the reason the average football fan has such a negative opinion of him. Why Wright had to bring racism into it I'll never know, because that has nothing to do with it. Bellend would be a **** regardless of his colour, so Wright's comments were ill-advised at best.
Football fans want to see their team do well on the pitch: race, religion, political and sexual persuasion etc, all of these things are irrelevant as long as the player puts in 100% for the club (or in this case country) and works within the structure of the team itself - ie, passes to a teammate now and again, particularly if that teammate is in a better position to score himself.

The press are certainly obsessed with valuing individuals more than the team.

Your final paragraph. I said months ago that I felt Phil had been bullied or something similar by Bellend and his mate Tront and their clique because in 2024 Phil had won all the plaudits from absolutely everywhere as footballer of the year. I firmly believe JBIAC and his over inflated ego couldn't hack or even slightly acknowledge that there was a better English player than him at the time.

There may have also been other circumstances such as ill health and off field personal stuff going on in Phils' life at the time, but imo a lot of it was underpinned by the summer 2024 Engand less than pleasant experience.

To be fair Bellingham has been over-hyped but he's still a good player who would get in most PL teams. But the media coverage has been ridiculous. Who would you prefer at City someone like Jared Bowen or Bellingham? Bellingham's stats for goals are signicantly worse than Foden for starters and that includes his long stint in the Bundesliga. Phil is one in three over a longer period and higher level. Bellingham is a one in four scorer.

I do think after the summer they have had though, the days of £100m+ signings at that club are gone for the foreseeable.

They will go back to the model that worked for them in the past, signing £60m players who can become £100m players
