If' it's any consolation to those vexed by the time frame, do remember that they will only have to serve around 21 months. A very small price to pay for all the abject misery they have caused to our people and our country.

You could hand out as many community orders as as our governments patience would allow, and they still wouldn't heed to the voice of law. Fanatics to the cause that were already serving a suspended sentence.

After reading the Judges summation, the ruling was fair and proportionate, and hopefully this sends out a clear message to the other activists that may follow in their lead.

We should put together a proper community sentence system and possibly drug rehab instead of the ramshackle, almost voluntary, nonsense we have now. It would be an additional cost to start with but eventually we could reduce the prison population by 30,000, a long term big cost saving.
These oil protesters, for example, need reminding that they cannot freely disrupt other people’s lives, but prison is ridiculous. 500 hours serious community work, supervised, no get outs, would be much more sensible.

Yes but I asked some oil protestors how they transported all their equipment (cameras, megaphones, computers etc) into the city. Awkward silence. Thunberg gets about her city by oh driving her car. They are not angels!

With prison places down to the low hundreds it is ridiculous to give then 4/5 yrs , 1 yr suspended would have been better with a solid chunk of community service . In the not to distant future we will all be saying that their message was correct but not the way they protested when it came to the glueing themselves to the road

How are they expected to get around ? You cant blame them for doing normal things , you dont have to be an angel to highlight something , greta is doing a great thing spreading the word about the way we are destroying the planet , history will remember her

That discussion has been going on for Donkeys years now. Instead of wasting time and money on these idiots it would be better spent on new energy efficient housing stock improving existing insulation improvement of Air source heating fitting solar to power the heat pumps introducing infrastructure for Electric vehicle's the lists endless these clowns aren't helping one Iota I'm afraid.
