Kalidou Koulibaly

To be fair there weren't days of Bernardo Silva like transfers, there was just the one Bernardo. Most transfers if not all from memory before and after Silva were heavily trailed and dragged on.

True but in most of the cases the transfers do happen. Like the Torres one currently. Lot of rumours of other teams coming for him and City underpaying them but will happen. Even Walker with Levy in charge did happen but with a few hiccups. I just don't trust ADL at all

if anyones having second thoughts on koulibaly you should watch the coppa italia against juventus, napoli won the game on pens but they got to pens due to a amazing defensive performance spear headed by koulibaly, he bullied cristiano ronaldo that night not giving him a sniff of goal. Was fast and composed, pushed his team mates on made sure the defence was tight and they didnt concede. Only thing that scares me with him is he really likes a slide challenge to be fair he normally times them well, but its always near the napoli box its a penalty waiting to happen.

Yeah but we could be 4 up by then

I'd imagine that won't go well with VAR

I think we absolutely need Koulibaly. There can never be enough world class players in your team. Pep said himself that he needs amazing players to make his system work. Adding Koulibaly will solve our defensive problems immensely. People are saying it’s the system that makes us error prone. Well if it’s that, I will rather have Koulibaly than Phil Jones in which case I will have some confidence that there is an able defender to save our asses. Otamendi and Stones are not up to the mark. Garcia is still young and he will get plenty of time rotating with KK and learning from both him and Laporte. This signing is a no brainer.

Where’s the fact that KK is world class coming from ??? I personally don’t see a world class player there
From most fans of many clubs, don’t think I know any football fan whoever they support that don’t think he is world class and want their club to sign him.

This type of stuff is fairies and unicorns. Big CL and PL games are impossible to control sometimes because other teams are so good. You could have a back five of Koulibaly, Kompany, VVD, Laporte and prime Maldini, you would still concede goals and get your arse spanked occasionally.

See our 2018 defeat to Liverpool in the CL for this.

Ultimately Pep can sign great defenders, coach them perfectly, send them out with a great game plan but if your £50m right back slips over in his own box making a clearing so you concede 10 minutes in, then their 5th choice midfielder hits a thunderbolt from 30 yards...you can't really legislate for that.

I see a lot of value in this, assuming the Koulibaly deal is nailed on, I like Garcia but his lack of pace frightens me at the highest level, he definitely needs to improve and playing time will help with this, but where would you loan him out to where the standard is such that he has the chance to really kick on??

Officially demoting Stones to a back-up CH will probably finish what little confidence he has left and he probably needs to be moved on, using him in a deal for an incoming player would be the right play IMO..

I don't want to turn in Exeter Blue but Garcia's lack of pace and height does concern me. Neither is insurmountable in the right set-up if he has technical and mental attributes that mean he is so good that his weaknesses are only exposed occasionally. Pretty much every player has weaknesses of some sort.

Leeds might be a good place if they are looking for centre backs. A season in La Liga wouldn't do any harm.

I wouldn't demote Stones as such. He'd be one of two senior right sided CB's and it's then up to him to compete for game time. Stones needs to stay fit first off. I'd give him another season as I still see potential in him.

Is Pep really resorting to Pellegrini's rigid defensive plan, which he himself totally destroyed not so long ago, by us simply knocking the ball past it & running ?

Or are the players supposed to use their judgement hold the line then quickly drop off, as the ball is played ?

I only ask because if the answer is A, imo we are fucked.

And if Garcia was playing for Real Madrid or Barca etc, against us, would we be more confident, or less confident of beating them than if they had KK ?

Hello stranger.

Stones will be gone mate, pretty sure of that. Pep’s had enough of him.

In theory we hopefully will have Koulibaly, Laporte, Ake and then Garcia with potentially Dinho still knocking around if needed.

I think Garcia would do well in LaLiga.
