Call me naive but I don't think having an 18 year old backup DM is gonna be the difference maker between a fantastic season and a dreadful one. Lavia probably wouldn't perform any worse than last seasons fernandinho.

If he does sign, will you boo him when he comes on as a sub for his debut, or will you give him a chance to show what he has and what Pep can do with him?
I never boo Cty players. Criticise on here, yes, but never on a matchday.

I've booed a few City managers over the years, but never players.

If we do sign him, I really hope he proves me wrong. Many have in the past, so there may be hope for him yet!

Which is fine.

What Phillips isn’t, is fucking shit. I assume that that was hyperbole on your part?

What I find when looking at CDMs is that the more boring and mundane they are, the better they actually are for the team.

Look at Rodri. Most games you just don’t notice him as he’s in the right place and intercepting easily without unnecessary tackles and he sprays the ball about simply.

If Phillips can do that, then he’ll be fine here.

He isn’t a highlights reel footballer but he will be someone who comes in and is effective. He will give us bite in midfield and give us a nasty streak which we miss at times since De Jong left. He hits a nice switch which we all know Pep loves and has the legs to break the lines with his engine. Will he be remembered as one of our best signings? No! Will he be remembered as someone who played a vital part in us winning trophies? Absolutely

I get what you're saying but I don't see any nastiness in his game. More of a firm but fair type.

Yeah I probably could have worded my post a little differently. Firm but fair is right. He loves a solid tackle and will put his foot in where some of our midfield wouldn’t want to or actually do. He’s also someone who could get a flat atmosphere going with one of those types of challenges

Who plays this role in the EDS? Surely Pep could integrate a young player in some games and also have a fall back in Zinny and Gundog should it be required. I always thought Stones could do a job as DM too, but after last night …
Whatever Pep chooses is alright by me; proved me wrong many times - apart from once… in Porto …. but I’m in counselling to let that one go ;-)

Lavia, good prospect but so not ready to step up yet.

I’ve watched the odd game but not really noticed him individually - but then that is the role of a good DM.
The one thing I have noticed though is that all the EDS are superb young footballers and I feel any one (possibly two) could do a roll in the first team for most games without too much of a drop off in standards.
We can be patient and wait for the right guy. I was worried last year with no striker … and that didn’t turn out too shabby.

Don’t want Kalvin Phillips. Overrated. Mistakes in him. Pressing teams like Liverpool will kick the ball off him every time.

It’s not my money so go hell for leather for the Rolls Royce that is a Declan Rice. Absolutely the best CDM out there not playing Champions League.

Lavia isn't ready yet for another one or two more years, his body is too young and not matures yet.

I mean throwing a 18 years old academy to full premier league match against premier league veteran in weekly basis isn't good idea at all. He needs to build his muscles first, but he can't at the moment because his young age have been limiting his physical growth.

In term of skill is likely to be ready but in term of his body he isn't.

I imagine most City fans have seen Phillips when

A: Leeds play City or a rival to City, so a game we’re expected to look shit

B: Under Southgate with England

I don’t think either show Phillips at his best.
You're probably right, however, I was impressed when I saw him at the Etihad last season when you beat us 2-1 and I have been impressed with him whenever I have watched him play for Leeds. You only have to look at Leeds' stats when he plays for you vs when he is absent and the difference in metrics is considerable

Nope it didn’t need explaining. If Rodri is fit he will always play. Philips will never be serious competition for Rodri’s place to think otherwise is delusional
So you've just proven why we are after a player like Phillips

Fernandinho didn't play this season on a weekly basis and I feel like you're underrating lavia.
