Kalvin Phillips | Joins City on a 6-year deal

Sounds exactly like Jack and Villa last summer

No it doesn't. Grealish had signed a new contract at Villa only the year before so the club weren't hoping he'd sign a new one. Villa knew that if City agreed to pay the release clause Jack was off. Their only issue was planning how to replace him, not trying to persuade him to stay. At the time, the Villa fans didn't know any of this, so they imagined and discussed all kinds of false scenarios.

Some insider info here. They did offer him a new deal tho.

They tried to renegotiate his deal.

Yep there is numerous articles online to support this. They tried to get grealish to sign a deal so the release clause would have been out of the equation in the future.

IDENTICAL to Kalvins rumors haha

Yeah there were even claims on the VIlla end that he'd agreed a new deal when City ITKs were adamant he'd already joined us.

It might be more complicated with Phillips if there's no release clause, but the stories so far and the reaction on the Leeds end is notably similar.

you know if pep wants him I’m happy enough, teams need workmenlike players in the side and not 1-11 all superstars or galactico’s ..
True, but all of our players are workmanlike, our squad as individuals work harder than any other team.....they just happen to be technically far superior to the likes of Phillips too ;)
The "superstar" argument is bollocks....poor technical players will not fit in our side, they will look lost.

I just don’t believe that our scouts , Pep, Txiki, whoever it is on the footballing side would ever get someone they didn’t think they could work with. I just don’t see it. So when people say he lacks the technique or skills or fashion sense I just prefer to trust in the people that are paid a fucking fortune to get it right….and they do most of the time. An England international is not much of a risk because they’re always likely to get you your money back.. so if he is the one .. bring it on.

KP..this is nuts ;-)

Reminds me a little of NDJ..I suspect he could be well trained into the dark arts ala Fern. Not overwhelmed, not underwhelmed, just an OK signing.

I hope we try to get Frenkie de Jong first before settling for Kalvin Phillips. At the very least, we'd force United to overspend a bit more.
