I hope he comes good, but I really can't see him competing at elite level. He is a decent Premier League player and the fact Bayern were sniffing around him shows he is still a useful player to have in the squad.

Who said he was our backup Rodri?
He's a SQUAD player.
Rodri 21/22 was fantastic, he had lapses in concentration thoughJust for some context on our BM scouting gurus some still posting today.

Sometimes slow to release the ball or plays it backwards instead of forward when there’s a pass on. Nonetheless, I’ll leave my flapping till he’s ‘ready’ and match sharp. First game back after all so it’s better he made the mistake today. Nonetheless, it seems like Fernandinho (who looked good)...forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk
“Oil tanker is faster than Rodri.
Get rid while we can.”
“Slow as piss this lad. He’ll never change”
“Plays far to slow, quicker he’s sold the better.”
“A liability as per. Surely Pep can see his glaring weakness. For fuck sake lad pass it forward “
“Hate to be harsh on a player, but Rodri is toilet and I can't believe we face another season this reliant on him. Fern's on his last legs and all we have is Rodri in that 6 role”
Not seen him play well once
Seen everyone else like palmer, bobb, Lewis, perrone…..even Gomez do something
But Phillips offers zero.
Positionally he seems to hide, he is never in space, it’s like he wants to stand next to opposition players so we pass to someone else
He is a mid to bottom half player West Ham or Fulham level
Overrated because of bielsa and Southgate
I could probably name 40 premier league players I’d take over him now!!
But how many of your choices would City take ?
If Phillips was prepared to move out of the comfortable chair he's apparently decided to sit himself in at City; probably quite a few.
He's a Championship player that we signed by mistake.
Whilst he may not be upto City's level you last comment is crap, there will be plenty of PL clubs after his signature if he leaves. If Phillips was prepared to move out of the comfortable chair he's apparently decided to sit himself in at City; probably quite a few.

He was a good player at Leeds. He looks like a fish out of water at City. It's a world of difference.Whilst he may not be upto City's level you last comment is crap, there will be plenty of PL clubs after his signature if he leaves.
I'm sorry but I asked the OP who of the " 40 or so " players he suggested City would take.
But thanks for jumping in

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall there being plenty of PL clubs lining up to sign him when we got him.
He was a gamble that hasn't come off.
Put your purse down Gladys.
I obviously meant that City would probably take quite a few of any 40 he could name, if the price was right.
Don't post on an open forum if you don't want other members to jump in...
:-)
Not sure which clubs were interested at the time we bought him, but I think Villa, West Ham, Newcastle and possibly Liverpool would be interested if he wanted to leave now.He was a good player at Leeds. He looks like a fish out of water at City. It's a world of difference.
