Karim Rekik

I agree about Bruma, but v Milan he was miles better than Rekik, who had a nightmare

If by nightmare you mean giving our ex prima donna hardly a sniff.....then i'm in full agreement.

Not ready yet, maybe he need a loan in a Premier League club before coming back to City.

This is absolutely not true.

I really don't see how you can watch those games & come to that viewpoint. I can't believe you really took much of an interest in the games & have only given it a casual look.

In all the games I saw Balotelli play, the thing I disliked most about him was how he would fall down from the slightest challenge & hope for a free kick, rather than playing on. Most of the time v Rekik, he was able to stand his ground, take the ball on his chest, bring it down & pass it, the kid didn't get near him.

On other occasions, Rekik would be right with Balotelli, then Mario would just move his shoulders, turn on the speed & suddenly be 15 yards away from Rekik able to recieve the ball in totally empty space & pick out a pass to anyone he wanted. Rekik became so frustrated that, in the end, he just put his studs right in Balotelli's back because he couldn't get even a touch of the ball off him.

Forgetting the general play, here are the goals.

Would you say Rekik's (No3) closing down of Boateng's shot was good ? Imo it's not very good at all, he protects himself from the ball first & just sticks a foot out. He is stood in no man's land for the corner but that may be under instructions so I will not use that.

HOWEVER: For anybody who wants to see an example of what i consider to be a typical piece of Rekik defending that night, go to 1:56 on this video. That is Rekik.

After Balotelli makes a tit out of him, look where Rekik runs to & look at the speed at which he runs.. Does he cover anything when he gets there ? Does he see the danger if the ball comes out off the keeper ? Does he even look for balotelli, who was with him, in case of a rebound or the bloke on the edge of the box ? No. he jogs towards the other five defendrs who are looking after one man & joins them, looking at the ball.

If anyone tells me that is evidence of a player who can play in the Premier League for City they are either clueless or telling lies. THAT was happening all night & has done on many occasions to Rekik, including in reserve teams for City v half decent sides & in the post season friendlies & in some of the videos posted for PSV on this forum, he is miles off it. He has a long long way to go, to make the standard we require.

I hope he does, I am all for academy players making it into our team, but the idea of him replacing players such as Lescott next season is a joke.

Never gave Mario a sniff? Really ?

I think you have to give a bit of a leeway to young players for that type of thing in huge games.

The whole point is that they aren't the finished product and will make mistakes here and there, it's why we send them out on loan in the first place.

That's fair enough, but the post I was replying to pretty much said he had Balotelli in his pocket.

This kind of nonsense keeps cropping up regarding Rekik, people asking how good he is & various characters come on to explain that he's better than Lescott & how we needn't worry because he & Nastasic will be our saviours next season.

Imagine him next to Nastasic on Monday night ?!!

He is a kid, who is decent on the ball, not so good in the air, not very quick at all & not great positionally. Personally, I think his only chance at City is possibly as a defensive mid, but I think the competition there will be too strong.

Either way, I'd be delighted if he becomes a great player for City, but right now he is nowhere near that & I wish people would just stop bullshitting to other blues about him.

I think we have much better prospects than Rekik .

I think after he was made Captain and their manager said some extremely promising things about him, the idea of him overtook the reality.

Lescott, a left footed centre back whose contract is up at the end of the season is replaced by the left footed centre back who is homegrown and has been impressing for PSV. Narrative writes itself.

I'm actually a bit more interested on how far away Denayer is. I know he's extremely young and behind Boyata but with Dedryck's contract up at the end of the season, I'm wondering who is going to slot into a "3-5 lesser games a season" slot.

Denayer looks a real prospect.

Don't know if he'll end up as a centre back but I'll be surprised if he's not playing in our first team squad in the next year or two.

Seems ok defensively rather than brilliant at this stage but is great on the ball & quick & has a touch of class about him. Kind of player who can possibly play a few positions.

The games I have seen him play he has done very well. Worth a shout.

I have to say, I've never seen a fan hate one of their own players as much as Neville hates Rekik. It's almost impressive, god knows what he'll be like if Rekik actually plays for the first team with any regularity

Not one of the goals against Milan were Rekiks fault, maybe he could have got luckier with the Boateng effort and then we would be hailing a super block.... against Mario he defended well and more than held his own for the vast majority of the game,i had no real complaints with his performance, especially given his age, experience and the occasion.

I think Nev has already made his mind up(very early.....)
