Keir Starmer

What is this fool waffling constantly about when he was growing up working class we didn't have ... blah blah

This time it's music

I grew up working class and learnt, recorder, guitar and piano in school.

I would get it if he said present kids deserve to learn music as I did, but these tall tales he tells like he lived in a slum and had to hike 30 miles barefoot to do anything in life is insulting to working class generations gone by

It‘s amazing that the Guildhall School of Music has a train station in it.

Don't be silly. He was exactly saying that present kids deserve to learn music as he did.

"To loud applause, Sir Keir renewed his party’s commitment to work to encourage all children to study a creative subject or sport until they are 16 as part of plans to widen the national curriculum."

"Under the Tories we have seen a creativity crisis in schools. 14 years of arts subjects being diminished and devalued. GCSE enrolment in arts subjects is down by 47%. And it’s working class kids who bear the brunt of that collapse in the arts. Right now one measure of excellence is the Tory EBacc. An accountability measure that values Latin and Ancient Greek but not music, drama or art. Seriously – in what world does learning to act, dance, sing, or paint count for less than learning a language from more than 1,000 years ago?"

No whats silly is he thinks it os necessary to turn every speach into an episode of brass or a hovis advert.

Previously he has said he learnt violin in secondary school so this, "ee until I caught stream train to the big city this poor working class lad was bereft of music" is just aimless bollocks and leave people cold as to whether he has an hinest word in him

Everyone knows he is from a lower middleclass backgrpund, why he thinks he need to prove he was working class is beyond me, how many PMs have been from the lower ends of tge class system, it really isn't something he needs to worry about

What's the difference between working class and lower middle class?

Isn't personal circumstances and security a big part of it?

Starmer's mother was severely unwell and couldn't work for much of her life and he was one of four children in a household with a tradesman as the sole breadwinner.

Diane Abbott's parents worked the same or similar professions (their mothers were nurses, her father was a welder instead of a toolmaker), and they would probably have been classed as lower middle class before they emigrated from Jamaica.

Does anyone accuse Diane of not being working class despite the boarding school scholarship and the affected voice (accent and speaking style)?
