Yes it’s ridiculous.
Although technically he probably hasn’t broken any rules because it’s all been declared and it remains to be seen whether any influence has been bought, Starmer’s been incredibly naive if he thinks that accepting multiple gifts wasn’t going to come back and bite him on the arse. It should have been obvious to him that accepting that level of freebies at the same time as calling out the Tories for doing similar was not going to be ignored.

I find people who are “into” politics weird to be honest.
The cultish inability to see any wrong in one party but find it difficult to praise another.

Like being a football fan to an extent but then there are weirdos on here who WILL NOT hear a bad thing against City. But this is politics, whos running the country, not kicking a footy about.

This is a left wing forum, im neither thankfully, but if this was a tory PM the posts would be going mental.

Bigblueitist is very common on here and is exactly the same behaviour as we get in the politics forum. I honestly don't know why people do it. This need to defend to the point of being ridiculed.

Until the laws change, he’s guilty of being naive, not corruption, as far as I can see.

Given not much else has happened since the election was won, this, along with WFA are the two avenues available for attacking him.

As soon as something major happens, this will be a damp squib.

The riots were quite significant and he handled that well. Even so, it gave rise to a load of ridiculous criticism about two tier policing, releasing prisoners early to make room for Twitter criminals and other such nonsense.
Whatever he does, whether good or bad, his political opponents will look for angles to criticise him and to distract from their own shortcomings. Beergate was the perfect example of that.
In this case he has left himself open to legitimate criticism related to the freebies and it’s a bit embarrassing watching his front bench losing their own credibility in defending him over it.
