Firstly bin donors off entirely. Right now if we wanted to setup a new political party it would be cost prohibitive. That to me denies democracy. So we need to find an agreed approach to funding prospective MPs - perhaps a state funded cap - now you need to limit the number of applications so as we don’t bankrupt the state so prospective MPs needing to have 1000 signatures backing them to appear on the ballot (or whatever number makes sense).

I’d then go further and make everyone campaign on an independent ticket - once elected they can form co-ops with other MPs. As an independent when you’re out campaigning to be elected you’ve got to pitch your local and national ambitions rather than the current franchise vote…oh I’m voting for x as we always vote Labour/tory/etc.

Second jobs are probably going to always be needed as you have practicing doctors etc who need to do some minimum amount of work. You could potentially limit the professions.
Second jobs don’t need to be paid. Don’t open the crack, I say.

A lot of noise about freebies but unless we change the law it’s legal, government is to far down the road of other interests taking priority over their elected roles to serve the people
I can wait for the next chance I get to show what I think of the WFP bill and £3000 heating allowance for MPs
If it was the Tories I’d be the same and was

Scandalous makes you realise how far the pendulum has swung in favour of politicians serving themselves while the right wing media concentrate on Labour as if prison overcrowding has suddenly occurred.
Nothing will change if we don’t protest the amount earned by politicians Labour won’t change the law they won’t shoot themselves and while it’s not against the law the tax payers money will be wasted on Rayners posh photographer and designer clothes.

There are many 'custom and practice' issues around parliament that I would like to see reformed.

But short of the aliens landing, taking over for a time and then imposing a new constitution and laws, how can this be achieved? Whatever parliamentarians may disagree about, they almost all love their little club and its privileges. I'll have a small bet that the exceptions are on the political fringe and that 95% of us would never vote for them.
