Keir Starmer

I hope Starmer will be gone by then. If I want to vote for a centrist party that supports neo-liberal economic policies I have a big enough choice without having to vote Labour.

Starmer is being funded by business and other lobbies, it will be his downfall and hopefully it will be soon.

For that to change there would need to be a leadership challenge. Who would that come from? RLB isn't going to do it. She is done in as a candidate by the Maxene Peake debacle. Who else is there from the left of the party that would have a chance. One of the things we learned from Corbyns term was how thin the pool is of hard left labour MP talent is. I don't see who could make a leadership bid and get anywhere near the 20% support required to get the process moving. Starmer is safe for at least 4 years unless a GE comes sooner. Pointless speculating beyond that as so much will change in that time.

Starmer is doing a decent job at PMQs each week, but is making no real impact. I think this is because although he's quite good at picking holes in BJ and the government he doesn't seem to have any actual ideas of his own.

I hope he has some decent election policies in place and not relaying on "Were better than the shitshow currently in Government" strategy. Still 4 years to go but I reckon Supreme Leader Cummings has already got a 10 year project in place for the Tories, let alone one to take them to the next election cycle.

If there is a challenge to Starmers leadership I'm struggling to think of who would do it.

A person running on a Corbynite platform will be out manovered sharpish.

Dawn Butler Brent
Rosenna Ali-Khan

Could be future prospects.

I think he does that thing a lot of modern careers politicians do - lives in fear of social media and studiously avoids having an opinion of his own if at all possible. I remember similar with corbyns opponents in the leadership race when he won - they were all soundbites and spin with no substantial ideas. It's a hang over from Blair/Campbell.

Every single interview with a Labour front bencher has seen when asked what is Labours position on x,y and z see them either say they support the science if it's covid which is exactly what the government will say it's doing or literally sit there and say they don't really have one other than to see how things pan out for the government.

It's not exactly a choice yet again for the electorate is it?

Had Jess Phillips on Sky critiscing gov for not suspending alleged offender claiming all other organisations would do it maybe she should read the guidelines laid down by Starmer as DPP naming should happen at charge not arrest unless agreed between police and CPS when not enough evidence to charge in the hope others will come forward.

I think he's deliberately being the 'gray man' for as long as possible. I doubt he has a clue how to deal with covid or brexit and come out of it with party and reputation intact so he's happy to just chip in from the sidelines whenever BJ leaves an open goal. Four years to the GE so maybe remaining bland is a decent strategy for now.

But he doesn't need to be named to be suspended from the whip. The problem is he can't be suspended from Parliament. Also that once he's named how does the alleged victim stay anonymous (as they had been in a relationship?)
